Tour Stop #6 at Sierra Lakes Superbowl tournament Results and Recap
Tour stop #6 and it ended up being a great weather day after two days of showers. We played lift clean and place as the course had some water on it. We had a sold-out field and division 3 once again being our largest field. Sierra lakes has some favorable fairways, so the scores were low for this event in all 5 divisions. So here is the breakdown…
Division 1: We had a good field in division 1 with last year’s member Jacob Valente (Valencia, CA) in the field, along with guest 16 year old AJ Gardner (Santa Clarita, CA) to give these guys a go at it. Berkecem Renda (Westminster, CA) was back and playing well on the front nine and ended with a 34 going out. He maintained his strong play and kept it together on the back nine with a 37 to shoot 1 under 71 and took home the Lombardi trophy! Angel Sotelo (Downey, CA) hung on for second as Jacob Valente took a triple on #11 that moved him back to third after he birdied 18. Congrats Berky
Division 2: We had new member Brooks Davis (Redlands, CA) joining our division 2 players today. Also last year’s member Jose Garcia (Lake Elsinore, CA) who after some wins in division 3 last season his index moved him up to division 2. After missing our elevated event Andres Viramontes (Murrieta, CA) was back. Andres was on fire hitting almost all fairways and greens in regulation, so with 2 bogeys and 1 birdie his round of 73 +1 was more than enough to give him his first division 2 victory! Vinnie O’Brien (Sun Valley, CA) played well and shot 76 for second place.
Division 3: What a battle for division 3, no one was taking command but they were playing pretty good. Kevin Keene (Irvine, CA) winner at Silver Rock was in the lead but still had to finish strong with 3 holes to play. Ryan Maramis (Corona, CA) was in the clubhouse and posted an 80 and was waiting to see if he could hold on for the win? Blake Moorman (Fallbrook, CA) was only 3 over after nine and in contention as well. Unfortunately, he took double bogey on 16 and bogey on 17 to finish one shot behind Ryan with an 81. This left Kevin on the course to determine our winner. Kevin went bogey on bogey on 16 and 17 to also finish one shot back and tied for 2nd with Blake, which gave Ryan the win in division 3, $285 and the Lombardi trophy!
Division 4: Our most exciting division of the day was division 4! Saul Armendariz (Granada Hills, CA) Stephen Julius (Fullerton, CA) Andrew Sarega (La Mirada, CA) and Kurt Odegard (Yorba Linda, CA) all battled hard. Andrew was in the clubhouse with an 83 and most of the time in division 4 would take the win. However, on this day with conditions good and course to attack everyone was playing great. All three other contenders were finishing in the same group and all they had to do was make par on 18 to take the win from Andrew. Stephen had the best chance but hit a rough chip on 18 leaving him with a 20-foot putt for par in which he missed to tap in for bogey. Kurt needed birdie but was unable to make his 12-foot birdie putt. Which left Saul with a 25-foot birdie putt in which he rolled up to 1 foot and tapped in for the victory! Oh wait! A wrong digital entry on a hole that should have been a bogey ended up changing the results and now we had a 3-way tie at 83 and a playoff! Saul, Stephen, and Andrew, whom I had to call and have him drive back to the course as he thought he got second. They all teed off well on hole 1 and Stephen and Andrew both made bogey. So, Saul needed a 2 putt to seal the victory, and he did! Now Saul is actually the winner, and all 4 men shot great division 4 rounds.
Division 5: Eddy Moore (Menifee, CA) in division 5 is the new Player of the year points leader after his win at the elevated event. His good friend Tommy Weatherby (Sun City, CA) just a few points behind were ready to battle it out. Iowa Chapter member Robert Rosenbaum (Hamilton, MO) was joining us for this event. Trent Hanson (Murrieta, CA) with his score of 90 would have normally won division 5 easily, but today with the course playing favorable, it was only good enough for third place as Robert hung on with bogey on the last hole to finish with 89 and second place. That’s because Tommy had one of those rounds and shot a great round of 87! Tommy, being a validated division 5 player gets the trophy and retakes the points lead in division 5 and $200.
Senior Net contest: Saul Armendariz (Granada Hills, CA) and Tommy Weatherby (Sun City, CA) with there great rounds took 1st and 2nd in senior net. Open Net Contest: With his great round in division 2 Andres Viramontes (Murrieta, CA) with a -6 net score wins the Open Net. Second went to Ryan Maramis (Corona, CA) and Andrew Sarega (La Mirada, CA) who both tied at -1.
Super Skins paid. $112 each and we had 5 of them.
