Tournament Champions
Tour Stop #11 was a back-to-back after Olivas Links to River Ridge. This was our first time at this course and it was convenient 2 miles from Olivas Links. The course had a lot of water holes and creative layout however a bit of some tough conditions around the greens that affected some players short game. Lets get to the action….
Division 1: A smaller field than at Olivas Links but Angel Sotelo, (Downey, CA), Kelly Pimenov II (Vista, CA) were playing back to back events. Riley Kline (San Dimas, CA) was back after his first event with us and looking to get in the winners circle. Angel started out with bogey on hole 1 but steadied the ship with a birdie on 9 to shoot 37 on the front. Kelly was off to a rough start shooting 7 over on the front nine but finished with birdie, and eagle on 18 to finish in second. Riley struggled on the back nine and Angel stayed consistent to shoot another 75, however this time it was good enough for the win.
Division 2: Thomas Crowder (Glendale, CA) Alfredo Alforque (Tustin, CA) and Patrick Ryan (Corona, CA) were back in the field for division 2 along with new member Mark Freie (Camarillo, CA) and another good field of div 2 players. Alfredo was on fire on the front nine with a birdie and 38. Patrick Ryan was close at 39 along with Olivas Links champ Mark Freie also at 38 and tied at the turn with Alfredo. On the back nine Patrick heated up with 2 birdies and his best round on tour with a 76 and in the clubhouse. Alfredo was hitting some trouble on the tougher back nine with a couple double bogeys that really cost him as he finished third at 82. So it came down to hole 18, Mark and Patrick were tied at 4 over and with a par they would go to a playoff. Mark was in the bunker in 2 and hit it out to 8 feet. The 8-foot putt to win or force a playoff was intense as everyone was gathered around watching. Mark hit the putt and sank it to go back-to-back over the weekend with a 75 and Patrick ended up 2nd. Good Playing everyone.
Division 3: New Member Jayson Huett (Los Alamitos, CA) Brian Czerniak (Woodland Hills, CA) and Ryan Encinas (Oceanside, CA) were all in the field again on this weekend. After just missing out at Olivas Links by one, Jason was again in the clubhouse at 85 and thinking he might get into the playoff as Ryan and Brian were hitting some rough patches. Ryan went 4 bogeys in a row but made par on 17 and 18 to get into the clubhouse at 83. Brian still on the course he made bogey on the tough 17th hole and had a 1 shot lead coming down 18 par 5. He made the playoff and lost at Olivas Links would today be his day? He was on in 3 and just needed to 2 putt to avoid a playoff with Ryan Encinas. He unfortunately left it short and had about a 4ft putt for the win. Ryan was cheering him on to make it, as he didn’t feel the energy to go play any more golf LOL. To both of their disappointment he missed the putt, and the playoff was once again the decider in Div 3. This time however Brian was persevered and took the trophy on the first playoff hole and Ryan finished second.
Division 4: Our largest field of the day continued to be division 4. Kurt Odegard (Anaheim Hills, CA), Saul Armendariz (Granada Hills, CA) Kiran Raina (Altadena, CA) and guest from (San Diego CA) Mike Dinow. Kiran was trying to go back to back after winning at Olivas links and Kurt was in the mix again, however guest Mike Dinow played a great front 9 and shot 41to have the lead at the turn. On the back Saul turned up the heat with a birdie on 12 and was now in contention. Kiran also birdied 12 but thru in a triple on 14 and double on 15 that set him back, but he finished par on 17 and 18. Saul also went par on 17 and 18 to sit in the clubhouse with a 12 over 84 and the leader. The final group was just teeing off 18 and if Mike could make par he would tie Saul and force a playoff. His tee shot went left but they were able to find it and punched it down to about 50 yards off the green, now needing to get up and down to save his par. He hit a good shot and left himself about a 10-foot putt. His putt just missed, and he had to settle for a bogey and 2nd place in first tournament. That left Saul with the win and $210. Great playing and great drama in both division 2, 3, and 4.
Division 5: Royce Jiang (Diamond Bar, CA), Jeremy Wuertz (Vista, CA) and Eddy Moore (Menifee, CA) were ready to battle. Royce and Eddy were just one shot apart after 9 holes and Jeremy was scrambling to get into contention. Today however it was Royce who pulled away with a 46 on the back nine and a round of 93 giving him the win over the field. Jeremy and Eddy ended up tied for 2nd with 99’s. That is Royce’s second win this season
Senior Net Contest
Saul Armendariz (Granada Hills, CA) with his great round in div 4 provided him with a 4 under net score to win the Senior net. Patrick Ryan also with a great round in div 2, shot 1 under and 2nd place, Ryan Encinas finished third at even par.
Open Net Contest
Kiran Raina with a +1(73) went back to back in the open net, winning Olivas Links and River Ridge! Royce Jiang was able to shoot +4 and 2nd place.
Super Skins: We only had 1 super skin, so Will Kamp (Los Angeles, CA) took home $400 for 1 birdie on a par 3! Mind blown emoji insert here.
