Tournament Champions
Tour Stop #15 of the season took us to Oak Creek Golf Club in Irvine, CA for the last elevated event of 2025. It was a great day for golf at 83 degrees and close to the ocean breeze on this summer day. We had a sold-out field with golfers from Arizona and Las Vegas joining us. Things are getting tight in the player of the year season points race in most of the divisions and to make the Southwest Cup team and with only a few events left, every putt counts big time. This event was started on hole 10 for all players and it went well.
Let’s get to the action…
Division 1: As the players navigated the beautiful yet challenging 18-hole course, spectators found themselves treated to some remarkable displays of talent. The Oak Creek course proved to be a true test of golfers’ skills, with its strategically placed bunkers and water hazards demanding precision and strategic thinking. 9 golfers in Division 1 were ready to go, with a Non-Member (Daniel Schaizzano Tucson, AZ) in the mix. National Player of the year contender (Joshua Crossen, Las Vegas, NV) along with a group of SoCal players trying to get those elevated points. After the front nine Daniel was playing well and was at plus 1 and in the lead. (Joshua Radcliff Dana Point, CA) was playing as a guest and made eagle on #18! That would get him a Super Skin of $128! It remained a close contest as (Leonardo Giron Chula Vista, CA) and (Riley Kline San Dimas, CA) were in the mix to win it. Unfortunately, Riley took a triple on the 17th hole ending his chances. Leonardo took a bogey on 18 slotting him in third place. Josh Crossen hit it to 8 ft on the finishing hole but was unable to make the birdie putt and he finished with a 2 over 74 and second place. With a steady round Daniel Schaizzano from Arizona ended up at 73 and the winner of the tournament in Division 1. He is now a member of the APT, congrats.
Division 2: Las Vegas chapter players and SoCal players were going back and forth to see who would come out on top in division 2. Chapter Director from Las Vegas (Chase Burbank Henderson, NV) and (Matt Baiza Las Vegas, NV) were playing well and trying to hold off (Jonathan Cavotta Rancho Mission Viejo, CA) along with SoCal season points leader (Vinnie O Brien, Sun Valley, CA) Matt was in position to push it to a playoff on the last hole but was feeling the pressure it seemed and hit a rough tee shot, that ended up costing him an 8 on the finishing hole par 4 and he finished 4th. Vinnie was battling his game all day but hung in with a couple bogeys down the stretch to finish 9 over 80 and third place. Jonathan Cavotta has played several events this season but has yet to break through. Today however he had a couple birdies to help him and even though he took double bogey on the last hole, he finished with a 79 and 2nd place and in the money! That left Chase with his great score of 77 as our elevated division 2 winner and $300 along with 500 plus points.
Division 3: As the day wore on, the competition intensified. Players vied for the top spots in several divisions, including division 3 which has become our closest player of the year race. (Kevin Keene Lake Forest, CA) had returned after missing several tournaments and was in his normal solid playing mode. Past Player of the Year Champion (Scott Christenson San Diego, CA) was playing back at his level after some challenges with health this year. Him and Kevin were in the lead group together and pushing each other. Kevin ended up shooting an 82 and finished 2nd. Scott shot and 83 and ended third, and both players got in the money! (David Raffety Fallbrook, CA) and (Joshua Carter Yorba Linda, CA) shot 84 and tied for fourth place. Playing as a guest Non-Member was first time player (Kent Muraoka, Azusa, CA). Kent was lighting it up on the front nine shooting -1! He hit a rough patch on the back nine with 2 triples and ended up shooting an 80. He was able to win his tour membership as part of our guest policies, Congrats Kent! Our championship ended up going to season points leader (Ryan Maramis, Corona, CA) with a great round of 78 +7.
Division 4: The leaderboard fluctuated with each passing hole, and strategic decisions became paramount in division 4. The tension was palpable as players approached the final holes, each trying to maintain composure while keeping an eye on their closest competitors. In the end (Saul Armendariz, Granada Hills, CA) with his favorite score of 82 took home the trophy! Three times this year Saul has won the tournament each time shooting an 82. (Brad Forsyth, Alta Loma, CA) and (Thomas Meagher Palm Desert, CA) both were in the tournament to win it going into the finishing hole. To their disappointment they both took double bogey to end up tied for second at 84. (Kiran Raina Altadena, CA) ended up 4th with an 86. With his finish, Saul vaulted himself into third position in the point standings and currently is in position for the southwest cup team. It’s going to be close with 2 events remaining and Kurt Odegard, Marty Rhinehart, and others trying to get in.
Division 5: Osman Atiq (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) (Paul Bobleaga, Las Vegas, CA) and returning member (Ronak Desai, Irvine, CA) were all battling for those division 5 elevated points and the trophy. Osman played a great front nine putting himself out in front and was holding on down the stretch, however he went double bogey, bogey to finish leaving the door open for Paul to take the tournament. Paul had taken the lead and was playing in the final group. With a bogey or better on the last hole he would win it! He ended up taking a double bogey and a playoff to determine the winner was in store. On the first playoff hole Osman played great securing a par 5, but Paul struggled giving the championship and $240 to Osman for his first win on the APT! Way to play guys!
Senior Net Contest
(Saul Armendariz, Granada Hills, CA) with his great round in division 4 also helped him take home the senior net contest and $285! Thomas Meagher (Palm Desert, CA) ended up in second and $140. Both men moved up in the player of the year race and Saul jumped into the number 1 spot.
Open Net Contest
Ryan Maramis (Corona, CA) Jonathan Cavotta (Rancho Mission Viejo, CA) Chase Burbank (Henderson, NV) and Joshua Carter (Yorba Linda, CA) all placed and won some money in the Open Net. Ryan was the champion shooting a net score of 66 and five under and $350. That strengthened his lead in the Open net Player of the year race as well.
CTP winners:
Ryan Maramis (Corona, CA) 2 CTP’s and $220
Gary Lamb (Ontario, CA) 1 CTP and $110
The other CTP was scratched as a public player wrote his name on the sign so the money was added to the other 3 CTP’s. What a bummer
Congratulations to all of our winners!
