2025 Southern California Tijeras Creek Golf Club Tournament Results
Tournament Champions
Tour Stop #16 of the season took us to Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA for the last regular event of 2025 season. It was a great day for golf at 83 degrees and close to the ocean breeze on this summer day. We had a sold-out field with 10 guests playing of which 4 become members of the tour! Things are getting tight in the player of the year season points race in most of the divisions and to make the Southwest Cup team, every putt counts big time. The course was really wet as they are trying to repair some grass so we played the ball lift clean and place in the fairway.
Let’s get to the action…
Division 1: The Tijeras Creek course proved to be a true test of golfers’ skills, with its strategically placed bunkers and water hazards demanding precision and strategic thinking. 11 golfers in Division 1 were ready to go, with a 3 college golfers in the mix. Johnnie Chu from (Tiawan), Triana Fernando (Washinton) and Cole Lum (Moorpark, CA). After the front nine Traina was playing well and in contention. It remained a close contest as (Angel Sotelo, Downey, CA) and (Riley Kline San Dimas, CA) were in the mix to win it along with 2024 player of the year, Elliott Sherrill, (Bellflower, CA) Unfortunately, Elliott took a double bogey on the the par 5 hole limiting his chances. Triana took a bogey first three holes on back nine but rallied with 2 birdies to finish in the clubhouse at 1 over 73. With a steady round Riley Kline made birdie on 18 to shoot a 71 and won by 2 over Triana and his first win on the APT.
Division 2: We had one of our largest fields in division 2 for the season with some new members and guests playing. Omar Torres (Oceanside, CA) Daniel Williams Goldberg, Laguan Beach, CA) new member, along with Brian Keene (Lake Forest, CA) winner at this year’s member guest at Soboba Springs. Omar was playing strong and 2 under after 7 holes until he took a triple bogey on #9 and making the turn at +2. Brian was also playing well and was out at +3 only 1 behind Omar. Omar was able to make some solid shots on the back and ended up posting 75 and in the clubhouse. Brian made birdie on 17 and had a chance but was unable to beat Omar on this day and took second. Daniel had some good birdies and capitalized on some skins and took fourth overall in division 2. Northern California Chapter Director Felix Monejz (Tracy, CA) finished third with a great back nine.
Division 3: As the day wore on, the competition intensified. Players vied for the top spots in several divisions, including division 3 which has become our closest player of the year race. (Blake Moorman, Fallbrook, CA) Aaron Steinburg, (Torrance, CA) along with Andrew Kim (Buena Park, CA) were some of the guys playing well. Nico Romero (Fullerton, CA) was also in the hunt. Today was Blake Moorman’s day, he was on fire and trying to secure a Southwest Cup spot. He shot his best round of the season with a 77 and won by 8 shots over Aaron, Nico, and Andrew who all tied for second with 85’s. Blake vaulted to fourth in the season points race. No changes in the top three as they all finished in the middle of the pack making the chapter finals for all the marbles.
Division 4: Russell Eustice (Ft Irwin, CA) Brad Forsyth (Alta Loma, CA) Kiran Raina (Alta Dena, CA) all played well in division 4. Russell found something with his driver that helped him stay in the fairway and it paid off with an 85. Coming down the stretch 4-5 players had a chance but it was Brad and Kiran that finished at 88 and a tie for second.
Division 5: Eddy Moore, (Menifee, CA), (Ronak Desai, Irvine, CA) and new member Jai Sambhwani, (Irvine, CA) were all battling for those division 5 points and the trophy. Eddy was playing strong and had a 10-shot lead after nine holes! He ended up winning by only 4 as he struggled on the back nine but won $200 and those coveted points. Ronak finished second and locked himself into a southwest cup spot and Jai third.
Senior Net Contest
(Eddy Moore, Menifee, CA) Brad Forsyth ( Alta Loma, CA) and David Raffety (Fallbrook, CA) all ended up in a tie for senior net each shooting 75 +3. We went to the back nine card off and David shot a net 32 back nine and easily won the card off and his first win on the APT and trophy!
Open Net Contest
Russell Eustice (Ft Irwin, CA) with his great round in division 4 ended up also winning open net. Felix Monejz (Tracy, CA) took second and Andrew Kim (Buena Park, CA) was third.
