The APT headed west for the 2nd signature major of the year – The Cinco De Mayo in San Diego, CA.  The host venues were the best in the area being anchored at Torrey Pines South Course, which has hosted the U.S. Open multiple times including Tiger Wood’s famous 2008 victory and hosted both the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open and the 2025 Genesis Invitational.  Aviara Golf Club hosted Sunday’s opening round, and Aviara has hosted the Kia Classic on the LPGA Tour and features stunning views and surrounds.  The greens were firm and fast at both courses, making scoring tough for players in all divisions.  100 players from all across the country traveled to San Diego for The Cinco De Mayo, with players gaining access to the exclusive field by earning priority exemptions based on their finishes in 2024 in their local chapter.

In Division 1, Josh Crossen (Las Vegas) jumped out to an early lead that he would not relinquish after shooting even par during Round 1 at Aviara.  Playing on a lead, Crossen cruised on Monday at Torrey Pines, shooting a 77 to maintain his round 1 lead to finish at +5 and earn a 6-shot victory.  Marc Young (Houston) would cruise to a runner-up finish with rounds of 78-77 to finish at +11, while Michael Huh (Charleston) made a move with the round of the day, a 1-over par 73 at Torrey Pines, to move into 3rd place at +14.

Division 2 lived up to the hype of a major championship as the leaderboard was jam-packed heading to the back 9 in Monday’s final round.  Curt Bressner (Phoenix), Paul Hess (Central PA), Johnny Pierce (East Tennessee), and Jeff Clifford (Utah) were all trading blows as players vyed for the championship.  It came down to the last hole, the historic 18th at the South Course at Torrey Pines, but Paul Hess made a clutch par to earn a one-shot victory at +19.  Jeff Clifford and Curt Bressner finished in a tie for the runner-up position at +20, while Johnny Pierce finished in solo 4th place at +21.  Christopher Jones (Carolina East) finished in 5th place at +22, while Joe Arnold (Metro New York) finished in 6th at +23.

Division 3 would see a battle from Ryan Maramis (Southern California), Chris Minar (Myrtle Beach) and Stu Kambury (Dallas/Fort Worth)Maramis and Minar would end up going back and forth, with Minar narrowly missing a birdie putt on the 18th hole that would have forced a sudden death playoff.  Maramis showed great poise in earning his first major victory – as he has steadily improved since getting promoted from Division 4 last season.  Maramis finished at +24.  Chris Minar earned the solo runner-up honors at +25, while Stu Kambury (Dallas/Fort Worth) finished in 3rd place at +29.  Rob Love (Dallas/Fort Worth) continued his solid finishes in majors at +31, while Simay Souvannarath (St. Louis) and Gary Barrow (Kentucky)finished in a tie for 5th at +33.

In Division 4, Dave Davidson (Southern California) navigated the challenges at Aviara to build an early lead that he would not relinquish, finishing the 2-day event at +31 to earn a 3 shot victory over Brad Forsyth (Southern California), who finished at +34.  Baasanjargal Tugsgerel (Southern California) finished the SoCal sweep coming in solo 3rd place at +35.  Linette Coddington (Myrtle Beach), who won the first signature major of 2025 – The Conflict at Kiawah), put up another solid 4th place finish at +39.  Steven Sylvester (Utah) and Kurt Odegard (Southern California) rounded out the top-5 at +40.

In Division 5, Travis Shively (Myrtle Beach) earned a 5-shot victory at +42 and continued his victory streak out west.  Shively emerged victorious at last year’s Cinco De Mayo contested at Kierland Golf Club in Scottsdale, AZ.  Earning runner-up honors was Joe Scheib (Phoenix), who finished at +47. Scheib finished in a tie for 1st at the APT Cloudland Challenge at McLemore in March.  Paul Taylor (New Jersey/Philadelphia) and Jeremiah Cassidy (Central PA) finished in a tie for 3rd at +53.

In Open Net, Ryan Maramis earned the victory finishing at 3-under net for the event earning a 7-shot victory over Rob Love (Dallas/Fort Worth), who finished at +4.  Chris Jones (Carolina East) and Jeremiah Cassidy (Central PA) finished tied for 3rd at +7.

Chris Minar (Myrtle Beach) earned the Senior Net Championship with a 2-day total of +2, besting Dave Davidson (Southern California) by 2 shots (+4.). 3rd place went to Troy Shedeed (Southern California) and Linette Coddington (Myrtle Beach) who finished at +7, while Stu Kambury (Dallas/Fort Worth) and Baasanjargal Tugsgerel (Southern California) finished in a tie for 5th at +8.  Rounding out the money was Mark Brailey (Tulsa), Pat Ryan (Myrtle Beach), Brad Forsyth (Southern California), Simay Souvannarath (St. Louis), and Joe Scheib (Phoenix) in a tie for 7th at +10.
