Windrose Spring Open
The Amateur Players Tour kicked off the spring season at Windrose GC for the Windrose Spring Open. The day started with a crisp cool morning, clear skies and a slight breeze. With wind forecast to increase by noon, a field of 37 players teed it up in search of top prize to open their season. As the winds became stronger, scores began to creep up in all divisions as Players made the turn to the back nine. Overall, it was a great day for golf.
Division 1: Glen McVey started the Windrose Spring Open with a single birdie on the front nine posting a +1(37). Marc Young had 2 birdies and was one shot back at +2(38). Don Bradham’s 3 birdie performance on the back nine was not enough to hold off Jared Marusic, who took the lead on 17 with his second birdie on the back to win the Windrose Spring Open with a +5(77).
Division 2: Continuing his good play from Pine Dunes, James Michalsky led by two shooting +2(38) over newcomers Christopher Darling and Dennis Elfert, both shooting plus +4(40). With three birdies on the back nine and no bogeys for a -3(33), James had a memorable round shooting -1 (71) for the commanding win.
Division 3: Newcomer Scott Elitsky and Alvin Miles tied for the lead at +4(40) at the turn. Jeff Roberts, with a birdie on hole 16, vaulted himself to the lead and the win by shooting a +7(79) to win by one stroke over Alvin Miles. Alvin took second with +8(80).
Division 4: The battle was on early between Carolina Ackerman and John Sparks both shooting +6(42) at the halfway point. Steady play by Carolina on the back nine paid off by posting a +7 (43) and securing her first win in Division 4 with a solid +13(85). John Sparks took second with a +15(87).
Division 5: Working hard in the off season, Rick Pritchard shot a +9(45) on the front with newcomer Tom Tribble four strokes back at +13(49). Rick made the only birdie in division 5 coming down the home stretch on hole #17. This was enough for Rick to secure his first victory on the APT with a +22(94). Tom Tribble took second with +26(98).
Senior Net: Alvin Miles won Senior Net with a -4(68). Carolina Ackerman took second place with a -1(71). A three-way tie for 3rd place at +3(75) included Don Bradham, Darien Duhon and Rick Pritchard.
We would like to welcome our new members and thank everyone for coming out. It was great to see you all again. Our next tournament will be an Elevated Event at The Wilderness in Lake Jackson on April 12th. Registration is now open. Once again, congratulations to all of the winners of the Windrose Spring Open.
