Preserve Winter Shootout Recap:  Biloxi, Mississippi

The APT kicked off February with a competitive and weather-tested weekend at The Preserve, where players battled significantly colder than average temperatures, momentum swings, and a course that demanded every shot. A huge thank-you goes out to the incredible Preserve staff for their flexibility, communication, and hospitality throughout the weekend. Even with unpredictable weather leading up to the tournament, their team ensured our players had a smooth experience from start to finish.

    Division 1

Division 1 saw steady play rise to the top as Hunter Melton (Crescent Springs, KY) captured the win at +19. Melton followed up an opening 80 with an 81, holding his ground while the field tried to make a charge in tough scoring conditions. Sean Pierce (Marietta, GA) applied the most pressure down the stretch, finishing just two shots back at +21, while Thomas Brockman (Springfield, MO) stayed in contention throughout the weekend to take third at +22.

    Division 2

Division 2 delivered another tight battle, with Elisha Payne (Gibsland, LA) securing the win at +19 behind rounds of 78–83. Payne held off a determined charge from Johnny Pierce (Chattanooga, TN), who posted 82–81 to finish at +21. Michael Lingenfelter (Decatur, IL) stayed close all weekend, finishing in solo third at +22. With multiple players trading positions throughout the final round, D2 became a game of smart course management and Payne’s ability to avoid big numbers paid off in the end.

    Division 3

Division 3 came down to who could best navigate the shifting wind and demanding greens, and Gary Barrow (Richmond, KY) came out victorious with a two-round total of +29. Barrow’s 87–84 weekend kept him just ahead of Lance Oliver (Helena, AL), who shot +31. A tight group followed at +32, with Blake Elkins and Todd Osinski sharing T3. D3 was one of the most competitive groups of the weekend, with only a handful of strokes separating the top finishers.

    Division 4

Division 4 featured major leaderboard movement across both rounds, ultimately ending with James Plaire (Henderson, NV) capturing the title at +40. Plaire’s second-round 82 was one of the strongest numbers posted in the division, helping him edge out Travis Glenn (Salt Lake City, UT), who finished one shot behind at +41. Rodney Oden (Gray, TN) rounded out the top three at +42.

    Division 5

Division 5 was defined by perseverance, with players grinding through every yard of The Preserve’s championship layout. Mitchell McDannald (Fayetteville, GA) claimed the top spot at +46, staying just clear of Adam Hodge (Bentonville, AR), who finished at +49. Ian Maggiacomo (Somerset, MA) locked in third with +52 after a strong opening round. With tricky lies and weather-related challenges affecting shotmaking across the division, McDannald’s steadiness over both days earned him a well-deserved D5 victory.

    Mid-Am Net

In Mid-Am Net, Blake Elkins (Jemison, AL) put together a consistent, well-managed weekend to finish at +8 and secure the victory. His opening 71 set the tone and gave him the cushion he needed to hold off Sean Pierce right behind him at +12 and Travis Glenn at a close +13. A crowded leaderboard made every stroke matter, but Elkins’ early momentum proved the separator.

    Senior Net

The Senior Net division saw Susan Barrow (Richmond, KY) take home the win at +6, backed by rounds of 73 and 75, some of the most controlled play of the weekend. Brian Sanders (Clanton, AL) stayed close at +7, while a three-way tie for third at +9 showed just how competitive this field was. Barrow’s ability to stay composed around The Preserve’s fast greens helped her maintain the edge in a tight finish.

A huge congratulations to all our champions, contenders, and division leaders! Thank you again to The Preserve for the outstanding hospitality and to every player who battled through the weather to make this event memorable.
