The Charleston Amateur Players Tour enjoyed the first feeling of spring this past weekend, as it hosted its tournament at Wyboo Golf Club in Manning, SC on Saturday.

Tucked along the western edge of the Lowcountry, Wyboo Golf Club winds through the scenic Deercreek Plantation and sits just across the road from Wyboo Plantation—two premier gated resort communities.

Designed as a Tom Jackson Signature Course, Wyboo opened in October 1999 and has steadily built a strong reputation among golfers across the state. Its rise in prominence was highlighted in 2003 when the sports editor of The State newspaper in Columbia recognized it as one of South Carolina’s Top 10 public golf courses.

The layout offers generous fairways off the tee but demands accuracy on approach shots. Well-placed bunkers and hazards guard the greens, ready to challenge any shot that strays off target.

The Charleston Amatuer Players Tour travels the Lowcountry of South Carolina, offering golfers of all skill levels a chance to compete in one of five different divisions. The tour awards cash and VISA gift card prizes to division winners, and also holds an optional cash skins game each tournament.

Here’s a breakdown of the results from Saturday’s tournament by division:

Division 1 – Mike Cobb was the class of the field in Division 1, firing an even-par round of 72 to win by 10 strokes. Cobb made three birdies on the front nine, carding a two-under par round of 34 to start the day. The Summerville, SC native ended his round in style with a birdie on the par-four closing hole.

Michael Huh finished second with a round of 82. Huh played his best golf on the back nine, birding the par-five 11th hole as he shot 39 on the closing stretch. Aiden Byce rounded out the division in third place with a round of 97, which was highlighted by a birdie on the par-four seventh hole.

Division 2 – Steve Smyth birdied two out of his first four holes en route to a round of 74 and the victory in Division 2 on Saturday. Smyth started on the par-five 15th hole, and made birdies on the 16th and 18th holes to kickstart his round. Smyth shot 33 on the back nine, clearing the field by two strokes.

A.J. Lee kept his scorecard rather clean throughout the day, making 12 pars, a birdie, and just five bogeys to post a round of 76. Lee shot two-over par 38 on the front nine, making seven pars. His lone birdie of the day came on the par-five 11th hole.

Weston Brown finished third with a round of 78. Brown moved to even-par on the round after making birdie on the par-five fifth hole.

David Banks and John Tompkins rounded out the top five  in fourth and fifth places with rounds of 81 and 84, respectively.

Division 3 – Christopher Whitney’s three birdies on the round proved to be the difference, as the West Columbia native carded a round of 79 to win Division 3. Whitney made two birdies on the back nine, taking advantage of the par-four 12th hole and the par-five 15th to shoot 39 on the closing stretch.

Justin Greider and Branden Baker were close behind in a tie for second place, finishing with rounds of 82. Greider made two birdies on the front nine as he shot two-over par 38 on the opening stretch. Baker’s round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-five fifth hole.

Joshua Bagwell and Michael Glymph rounded out the top five in a tie for fourth place, as both players posted rounds of 83.

Division 4 – Eighteen holes of golf proved to not be enough to determine a winner in Division 4, as in the end, it was Casey Price who emerged victorious in the playoff. Price and Chris Huge both carded rounds of 87, forcing the playoff.

Price made consecutive birdies on the eighth and ninth holes to reach the playoff. Huge kept his scorecard clean on the front nine, making six pars as he shot 41.

Todd Garrett finished third with a round of 89. Garrett’s round featured a birdie on the par-four third hole. Jeff Orr finished fourth with a score of 90, followed by a three-way tie for fifth place including Randy Poplin, Jeff Leagan, and Jimmy Mathis, as all three posted rounds of 91.

Division 5 – Brendan Daniels and Benjamin Khenglawt found themselves in a close battle down the stretch. In the end, it was Daniels who secured the victory in Division 5 with a round of 90. Daniel’s birdie on the par-four 10th hole proved to be crucial as Khenglawt finished just one stroke behind with a round of 91.

John Greider finished third in the division, carding a round of 93. Greider’s round was highlighted by a birdie on the par-four 18th hole. Bill Turner finished fourth with a round of 95, followed by Barry Crocker in fifth place, posting a 96.

Mid-Am (Net) – While Justin Greider fell just short of the top spot in Division 3, his net round of 70 was enough to claim victory in the Mid-Am Net division. Greider played the front nine in four under par, with three net birdies and a net eagle.

A.J. Lee finished second with a net round of 73. Lee shot even par on the front, including a net birdie on the first hole of the day. His back nine included two more birdies on the 11th and 14th holes.

Weston Brown, Brendan Daniels, and Branden Baker finished tied for third place with net rounds of 75. Brown made two net birdies as Daniels made four net birdies and a net eagle. Baker finished with three net birdies and a net eagle as well.

Senior (Net) – David Banks made three net birdies en route to a round of 74 and the victory in the Senior Net division. Banks made two of his birdies on the back nine as he shot even par on the closing stretch.

Barry Crocker finished runner-up with a net round of 76. Crocker made three net birdies in a row to close the front nine and shoot even par. Jeff Orr finished third with a round of 77, which included six net birdies.

Casey Price, Chris Huge, Eric Sage, and Jimmy Mathis tied for fourth place with rounds of 78 to round out the top five in the division.
