Columbus APT Tour Recap – Darby Creek Golf Club

The Columbus APT Chapter returned to the beautiful Darby Creek GC on Sunday, July 27, where 53 players battled one of Central Ohio’s finest layouts under nearly perfect conditions. With comfortable temperatures, overcast skies, and the course in outstanding condition, it was a fantastic day for competitive golf.
Designed by the renowned team of Geoffrey Cornish and Brian Silva, Darby Creek offers golfers two completely different experiences. The front nine, known as “The Links,” features a Scottish-style links design with natural grasses and strategically placed bunkers across the former Ohio Orchard Company property. The back nine, “The Woods,” provides a classic American-style challenge with tree-lined fairways, lakes, and demanding approach shots. Rich in history, the property also includes the historic Woods-Reeds Cemetery dating back to the early 1800s, making Darby Creek one of the most unique venues on the Columbus APT schedule.

Tournament Results
Division 1
Nolan Frey of Canal Winchester, Ohio continued his impressive start to the Columbus season, improving to 2 starts and 2 victories by firing a 1-over-par 73. Frey held off both Adam Black of Dublin and Josh Corbinof Lancaster by a single stroke to capture another championship.
Division 2
The Division 2 Player of the Year race continues to belong to Blake Smith of Lancaster, Ohio. Smith earned his fourth victory of the 2026 season with another outstanding 1-over-par 73, finishing three shots ahead of Rick Williamson of Wayne, Ohio. Evan Yoder of Millersburg rounded out the top three, just two shots behind Williamson.
Division 3
Division 3 required a scorecard playoff after Brandon Kristy of Reynoldsburg, Ohio and Tom McNerlin of Oak Hill each posted rounds of 81. Kristy won the tiebreaker to claim the championship trophy and prize money. Brad Secrest of Fairborn and Ray Conley of Hilliard finished only three shots behind the leaders.
Division 4
Perhaps the most dramatic finish of the day came in Division 4.
Chris Berry of Carroll, Ohio finished his round at 8-over par, highlighted by a birdie on the 18th hole to post the clubhouse lead. Playing in the final group, Shawn Snyder of Belmont needed a par on the final hole to force a playoff or a birdie to win outright. Unfortunately for Snyder, a closing bogey gave Berry a thrilling one-shot victory. Van Rome of Canal Winchester finished third, three shots back.
Division 5
Tyler Philo of Beavercreek, Ohio continues to enjoy a remarkable season. The current Cincinnati/Dayton Player of the Year leader earned his fifth victory of 2026, cruising to a three-shot win over Ian Lilburn of Columbus and Quintin Jessee of Hilliard.
