On Monday, July 20, the New Jersey Chapter of the Amateur Players Tour traveled to Williamstown, New Jersey, for a fantastic day of championship golf at the prestigious Scotland Run Golf Club. A strong field of 47 competitors teed it up across five divisions at one of New Jersey’s premier private golf clubs. As an Elevated Event, players competed for double the prize pool and double the Player of the Year points, raising the stakes even higher. Warm summer temperatures, partly sunny skies, and a light breeze provided excellent playing conditions, setting the stage for an exciting day of competition from the opening tee shot to the final putt.
Consistently recognized as one of New Jersey’s premier golf experiences, Scotland Run Golf Club offers a true championship challenge. Built on the site of a former sand quarry, the course features dramatic elevation changes, natural waste areas, strategically placed bunkers, and rolling greens that demand precision and smart course management. Every hole presents a unique test, rewarding confident shot-making while punishing mistakes. Its distinctive layout, outstanding conditioning, and private club atmosphere make Scotland Run one of the most sought-after venues in the state, making it the perfect venue for one of the New Jersey Chapter’s premier tournaments.
With strong competition from start to finish, players had plenty to play for at Scotland Run. The event featured $1180 in Division Skins and Super Skins payouts, while $3,135 in total prize money was awarded across Divisions 1–5, as well as the Mid-Am Net and Senior Net competitions. Every division saw closely contested battles and impressive performances throughout the day.
Division 1
Division 1 featured a competitive field of five players, including New Jersey Amateur Players Tour newcomers Eric LaVecchia and Gary Houghton, who were both making their APT debuts. The competition was tightly contested through the opening nine, with Kai Leider holding a one-shot lead after posting a 2-over 37. LaVecchia was close behind at 3-over 38, while Charles Lee sat just two shots back at 4-over 39.
The battle remained close throughout the back nine as all three players stayed within striking distance heading into the closing holes. Lee finished with a 10-over 81 to claim third place, while LaVecchia impressed in his APT debut, carding a 7-over 79 to earn runner-up honors. Leider stayed composed down the stretch, protecting his lead and capturing the Division 1 championship with a winning score of 6-over 77.
Division 2
Division 2 featured a talented field of 12 competitors, with players battling throughout the day for the championship at the demanding Scotland Run Golf Club. With little room for error, consistency and smart course management proved to be the keys to success.
David Rosenberg turned in an outstanding performance, posting a 5-over 76, Rosenberg played steady golf throughout the round, avoiding costly mistakes and finishing two shots clear of the field.
Rocky Dare put together a strong round of his own, carding a 7-over 78 to earn runner-up honors. Kevin Park completed the podium with a 8-over 79, finishing just one shot behind Dare after a solid day from tee to green.
Just behind the leaders, Roy Choi finished fourth with a 10-over 81, while Ian Farley rounded out the top five at 12-over 83. Scotland Run’s challenging layout tested every aspect of the players’ games, but Rosenberg’s steady play and ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities ultimately earned him the Division 2 championship trophy.
Division 3
Division 3 featured the largest field of the day, with 16 players battling for the championship at Scotland Run Golf Club, New Jersey Amateur Players Tour welcomed newcomer Dayne Peterson who was making his APT debuts. Competing in an Elevated Event on one of New Jersey’s premier private golf courses, the division faced a demanding test where every shot mattered and consistency was rewarded.
The race for the title remained competitive throughout the round. Nicholas Lazarchuck and Steve Winnick each turned in solid rounds of 12-over 83 to finish tied for second, keeping the pressure on the leader until the final holes. Cassidy Salvador was just one shot behind the pair with a 13-over 84, while Dylan D’Amato claimed fifth place at 15-over 86. Michael Gaytan rounded out the top six with a 16-over 87.
When the final scores were posted, it was Jeff Dofflemyer who emerged on top. His steady, composed play throughout the day produced a winning score of 9-over 80, good for a three-shot victory and the Division 3 championship trophy. On a course that demanded patience, precision, and smart course management, Dofflemyer delivered the most consistent performance of the day to earn the win.
Division 4
Division 4 featured a competitive field of seven players, with every competitor looking to conquer the challenging layout at Scotland Run Golf Club. The division also welcomed guest player Tyler Bayley, who made his New Jersey Amateur Players Tour debut in his first APT event.
The battle for the top spots remained competitive throughout the round. Illyas Sarwari posted a solid 16-over 87 to earn runner-up honors, while Carmine Ciccarelli claimed third place with a 25-over 96.
When the final scores were tallied, Darren Barberio stood alone at the top of the leaderboard. Barberio put together the most consistent round of the day, finishing at 13-over 84 to capture the Division 4 championship by three strokes. On a course that rewarded patience and disciplined golf, Barberio’s steady play proved to be the difference as he claimed the Division 4 title.
Division 5
Division 5 featured a competitive field of seven players, all looking to tame the demanding layout at Scotland Run Golf Club. With the course testing every aspect of their games, players were forced to stay patient and minimize mistakes throughout the round.
The race for the championship remained close from start to finish. David Neder turned in a strong performance, carding a 20-over 91 to finish just one stroke off the lead and claim runner-up honors. Brandt Cullen secured third place with a 24-over 95, while Frank Romano and Stephen Kraus shared fourth place after each posted 29-over 100.
When the final scores were posted, Peter Kratzel emerged as the Division 5 champion. Kratzel’s steady round of 19-over 90 was enough to edge the field by a single stroke and earn the championship trophy. On a day when scoring opportunities were limited, Kratzel’sconsistency and ability to avoid costly mistakes proved to be the difference in a tightly contested Division 5 battle.
Mid-Am Net – The Mid-Am Net side game featured 11 competitors, with players 49 years of age and younger competing for the championship alongside their regular division competition. The net competition proved to be one of the closest contests of the day, with the title coming down to the smallest of margins.
After 18 holes, Nicholas Lazarchuck and Illyas Sarwari finished tied atop the leaderboard with a Net Score of 1-under 70, forcing the championship to be decided by a scorecard playoff. Michael Gaytan finished just three shots behind the leaders with a Net Score 2-over 73, while Cassidy Salvador and Dylan D’Amato shared fourth place after each posted a Net Score 3-over 74.
When the scorecards were matched, Lazarchuck claimed the Mid-Am Net championship on the tiebreaker, edging Sarwari after both players completed outstanding rounds. It was a fitting finish to a highly competitive side game, with Lazarchuck’s strong closing holes ultimately earning him the victory.
Senior Net – The Senior Net side game featured a strong field of 23 competitors, with players 50 years of age and older competing for the championship alongside their respective divisions. Scotland Run’s demanding layout provided a true test, but several players turned in exceptional net rounds.
The race for the title remained competitive throughout the day. David Rosenberg posted an impressive Net Score of 3-under 68 to finish runner-up, while Rocky Dare claimed third place with a Net Score of 1-under 70. Jeff Dofflemyer rounded out the top four with aNet Score of even-par 71.
When the final scores were posted, Peter Kratzel stood atop the leaderboard with a superb Net Score 4-under 67, capturing the Senior Net championship by one stroke. Kratzel’s outstanding performance showcased consistent play from start to finish, and his ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities proved to be the difference in one of the day’s most competitive side games.
Folds of Honor Raffle 50/50 winner was Mr. Kevin Stevick – taking home $142. Thank you to Scotland Run for donating some merch. Mr. Andrew Michael and Mr Asun Saleem both won a Golf hat and a case of Srixon Golf Balls, David Neder and Richard Guillod also won a Scotland Run Golf Hat.
