Cumberland Valley Open at Omni Bedford Springs Results

The Amateur Players Tour travelled to the historic Bedford Springs resort for their 5^th national major of the 2022 season in Bedford, Pennsylvania to take on the Old Course.  The Old Course is a Donald Ross, A.W. Tillinghast Spencer Oldham design, originally built in 1895.  Overlooking the Allegheny mountains, APT members who made the trip would not be disappointed as they encountered breathtaking views, impeccable course conditions, and a very challenging layout.

In Division 1, Kentucky’s Tony Wise jumped out to an early lead, firing a 1-under par 71 to take a sizable lead.  Round 2 brought on tougher course conditions on a rain-soaked day, but Wise paired his first round 71 with another 1-under 71 to earn the victory over West Virginia’s Jared Taylor, who finished 2^nd with a 2-day total of 7-over par 151.

In Division 2, Jody Barrett returned to form in Round 1, firing a 2-over par 74 to build a 5 shot lead over Virginia Capital’s Tim Robinson, who was in second place with a 79, with a host of challenger’s shooting 80.  Barrett slipped early in Round 2, allowing a group of challenger’s to contend including Christopher Denz (Virginia Capital), Dave Field (Carolina Triad), Jeff Snowden (Maryland), and Vick Tandon (Metro New York).  Barrett hit a wedge shot to 18 inches on the par-5 3^rd hole, his 17^th hole to secure an easy birdie and put the championship just out of reach of his competitors and earn a 5-shot victory.  Christopher Denz and Dave Field finished tied for 2^nd, with 2-day totals of 160.  Jeff Snowden and Vick Tandon finished tied for 4^th with 2-day totals of 161 to round out the Top 5.

In Division 3, Rick Knepp had a hot hand on the Old Course, which is located near his home in Central Pennsylvania.  Knepp (Metro Philadelphia) shot a lights out 3-over par 75 to establish a lead that would not be caught.  Joe Renteria (Virginia Capital) battled all weekend and kept things close, but Knepp pulled away late for a 6-shot victory.  3^rd place belonged to Daniel Kessler (Metro Philadelphia), who finished with a 2-day total of 165, just ahead of Metro Philadelphia’s Ed Gilbert who rounded out the Top 4 with a 2-day total of 166.  Rick Knepp, who led the National Player of the Year race in 2021 heading into the North American Championship at Pinehurst Resorts, has earned a promotion with his great play this weekend.  Congratulations Rick!

In Division 4, Carolina Triad’s Daniel Henris got off to a good start, shooting a first round 86 to build an early 2-shot lead over Virginia Capital’s John Lambert and Chuck Nimmo.  Henris followed up his 86 with an 83 in tough conditions to earn a 3-shot victory over John Lambert. Chuck Nimmo came in 3^rd place with a 2-day total of 177, while Metro New York’s Jeff Marshall shot a 2-day total of 179 to finish in 4^th place.

In Division 5, Metro New York’s Daniel Andrews used a first round 89 to build a sizable lead over Metro Philadelphia’s David Garrett, who sat in 2^nd place with a 98 after round 1.  Andrews followed up his Rd. 1 89 with a Rd. 2 98 to earn a 13-shot victory.  Les Bullock (Virginia Capital) made a move on Day 2 with a round of 98 to jump into second place, with David Garrett finishing 3^rd.

In the Senior Net division, the weekend belonged to Rick Knepp (Metro Philadelphia), who used his 4-under net round 1 score to cruise to a 4-shot victory over Daniel Kessler and Daniel Henris. Ed Gilbert and John Lambert rounded out the Top-5 finishing 5 strokes back, while Buzz Buzinski (Virginia Capital) finished in 6^th, 6 shots back with a 2-day total of 149.

Players also were able to compete in a Net Fourball competition, with the winners each receiving a Blue Tees Range Finder and some Motive CBD Roll-On Serum.  The 2^nd and 3^rd place teams each received Blue Tees Range Finders as well.
