The 2022 Calendar Season is well under way and the momentum is strong as we continue to have great participation across all our 5 divisions. 99 players attended the Monday event at Gaston CC and everyone had great reviews of the course and the event in general. Of the 99 players we had representation from 6 different chapters as well as 4 Chapter Owners. Lee Dixon from Charleston brought a few of his players to his old stomping grounds, J and Ivan from the Carolina Triad Chapter made there way down I-85 along with a few of the Triad members and Matt Fegley from our Northern California Chapter made the trek to one of the finest Private Country Clubs in the area for some stiff competition.
In Division 1 we had 18 players compete on this day. Jake Scruggs who was playing as a guest shot a -4 round of 68 to claim victory. Don’t fear Division 1 players, Jake informed us that this was his one and only event as he was turning pro in the next few days as he moves his game to the next level. Tre Lamb from Shelby took home second with a 1 under par round of 71. Rounding out the top 3 paying positions was Brian Parker from Charlotte.
Congrats Jake!!
In Division 2, 18 holes was not enough to crown a champion. Michael Hefner and Chase Brown both shot +3 rounds of 75 to tie for first. We sent them back to the 18th hole to settle the tie and it lasted only one hole as Chase was victorious. Michael settles for second place honors. In Third we had a tie again between Casey Alexander (+5, 77) and Nolan Elenz (+5, 77) who continues his strong play now that the temperatures are starting to rise. They split the 3rd and 4th place prize money.
Congrats Chase!!!
In Division 3 we had 31 players battle it out. As the dust settled, we again needed a playoff between Troy Millwood and Jake Currie who has been hot to start the season. Both players shot (+5,77) to tie for 1st. We sent them back to 18 just like Division 2 and again it would take just one hole for Jake to claim the victory. Chip Goode was solo 3rd at 79. Bryan Kemmerlin takes home 4th with a +10 round of 82. Since we had 31 players in Division 3, we were paying the top 6 spots. AS it turned out we had a 5-way tie for 5th with scores of 84. Izzy Justice, Tyler Phillips, Chase Davis, Dan Ahlers and Kirk Tatge split the 5th ($60) and 6th ($40) five ways. Each player has received $20 in Tour Credit on their player accounts.
Congrats Jake.
In Division 4, Ron Lamorte competing in his first as an APT member after playing Cabarrus CC as a guest played steady and held it together while others around him faded down the stretch. Ron’s round of 81 was 2 shots better than runner-up, Andy Parker (Carolina Triad) who shot 83. Just another 2 shots back was Jason Upright who is getting closer each event. Eliminating some of the big scores will allow him to claim victory very soon. Dan Keddie and Eric Seibert Tied for 4th and they will each get $20 added to their Tour Credit accounts.
Once Scores are posted, we see that Ron Lamorte will be advancing to Division 3 for his next event as his Tour index has dropped below the Div 4 range.
Congrats Ron !!
In Division Its staring to sound like a broken record as Steve Daniels wins again. Steve though he had lost it when coming to his 18th hole and up by 1. A triple bogie on the final hole caused him to move to second place and force him to wait for Steve Kwon to play the same finishing hole. As it turned out, the 17th hole, albeit short, was the demise of both players as they both took triple bogie. With Kwon’s triple bogey, this allowed Daniels to sneak back into first place and claim victory.
Congrats Steve !!
