At NorthStar Golf Club we had 31 golfers come out to play a difficult course in extremely windy conditions. The sun made it’s debut this year and brought very blustery conditions with it. The wind blew any where from 20 to 30 mph which made the lower scores even more impressive.
In Division 1 Justin Arens showed his ball striking skills on the front 9 hitting 7 greens in regulation and posted a 38 going out on a difficult front nine. Justin then birdied 10 and didn’t look back. After just one more bogey and parring out Justin came in with even par 36 for a winning total of 74. This was Justin’s first win of the season. Matt Malone came in 2nd with 79 highlighted by 2 birdies on the front and a closest to the pin on the par 3 17th.
In Division 2 Tyson Spence started his Amateur Players Tour season in style with a victory in his first event. Tyson hung in there on the front nine posting 42 and then came in with 39 highlighted by 7 pars and a winning total of 81. Cody Rausch was extremely consistent posting 41 on each nine for a 2nd place finish with 82. Justin Gardiner and Rick Thomas came in a tie for 3rd with 83.
In Division 3 Steve Phillips and Michael Bruesch battled back and forth all day. Steve went out in 39 and then scrambled his way home in 42 posting an 81 and his 3rd victory on the Columbus tour this season. Michael who was around the lead most of the day shot an impressive 40 on his front 9 and then also did his best to scramble in shooting 43 on the inward nine for 83 and 2nd place. Michael also tied Jerry Lanfear for first in Senior Net with 76.
In Division 4 Jim Kohler battled the wind on the front nine and did his best to get in with 45. He then started to ball strike his way around the back nine highlighted by a birdie on the difficult 12th hole which was a division skin and super skin. He would shoot 41 on the back to post a winning total of 86. Zachary Walker and Danny Bay both stayed solid for the majority of the day, posting 90 and in a tie for second.
In Division 5 two shots separated all 4 competitors in a hard-fought battle all day. Terry Collins would hang in there down the stretch to shoot 50/52 and collect his first APT win of the season. Steve Smith, who has been consistent most of the year, shot 53/50 to get 2nd place.
