River Bend Links on June 4th saw the Memphis/Mid-South APT come in hot with a barrage of birdies! 89 birdies and an eagle were recorded in the field of 60 players!
Division 1 – 40 birdies
Division 2 – 31 birdies, 1 eagle
Division 3 – 6 birdies
Division 4 – 10 birdies
Division 5 – 2 birdies
Division 1 saw the birdie barrage start things off with the very first group of the day combining for 21 of the 89 total birdies. Derek Joslin fired a -6 (66) with 9 birdies to run away with the win over Russell Cook -1 (71) and Jordan Jones E (72). Brandon Gurley threw in 2 birdies of his own in the lead group to go with 5 from Cook and 5 from Jones.
Division 2 saw another big chunk of birdies as Paul Luker used 4 of them en route to his -1 (71) winning score. Keith Nuckolls finished second at E (72) and Jeff Avant came in third with a +1 (73).
Division 3 had some fireworks coming down the stretch. Kelby Eavenson (in his first APT event) and Roger Leake carded matching +10 (82s) to post scores as the leaders in the clubhouse. Those scores wound up tying for second as Jon Sylvester posted a +6 (78) for the win. Also, a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO KELBY!! Finishing second in his first ever APT event and on his birthday no less!
Division 4 saw Stephen Cotton (also in his first APT event) edge out Kevin Brown by one shot! Cotton shot +8 (80) to nudge Brown’s +9 (81). Bradley Ashmore finished 3rd with a +12 (84).
Division 5 saw the most excitement as the tournament ended and scores were posted, we had a three-way tie of matching +20 (92s) from Trey Horrell, Chris Jones, and Amaan Allahi (also playing his first APT event)! The three competitors went to #1 tee box for the playoff. Horrell and Jones both sprayed errant tee shots right in the hazard while Allahi found the left side of the fairway. Allahi managed to get his second shot near the green and then a flawless up and down for par to seal the win. Horrell made bogey on the playoff hole to finish 2nd while Jones made a double bogey to finish 3rd.
Thank you goes out to Chris Culver and his staff at River Bend Links for an outstanding event! Our next Memphis/Mid-South APT event is our joint event with Nashville and Birmingham at RTJ The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, AL June 18-19. Our next local event is June 25th at Timber Truss in Olive Branch!
