On Sunday, the St. Louis chapter opened their season at the popular Lake Forest Country Club in Lake St. Louis, MO. A buzz was in the air as players anxiously awaited to get the 2021 season underway, earning valuable points towards qualifying for the inaugural North American Championship at Pinehurst Resorts in October. A sold out field of 96 players faced a wet golf course with cool and windy conditions, but fast, undulating greens added to the challenge.
In Division 1, fresh off of his win at the Orange County National Fourball in Orlando, Tyler Fieser kept his winning ways, battling his way to a +7 over 79 to start his season with a victory. Brett Newton finished one shot back with an 80. Chicago Chapter Owner Todd Manning and 2020 Player of the Year John Todd finished tied for 3rd with 1 shot back at 81.
In Division 2, Dave Oleksa bested a 25-man field by 4 shots, shooting an 81 in tough, cold conditions to earn the victory at the season opener. Oleksa’s win earns him an invitation to the Tournament of Champions at TPC Danzante Bay in Mexico to be contested January 2nd-6th. Tim Mayer, Mike Petty, and Billy Davis each tied for 2nd with rounds of 85. Drew Vandas, Mark Lamoureux, and Chad Crawford each finished T-5 with 86.
In Division 3, Tim Koncki played his best round on the Amateur Players Tour to date, shooting an 82 to earn a 7-shot victory over Ray Morales, who finished in solo 2nd with 89. Kyle Fuehne and Michael Konuch each finished T-3 with 90, while Ross Richardson and Alex Graf rounded out the top 5 with rounds of 91.
In Division 4, Danny Graves shot a solid round of 89 in tough conditions to earn a 4 shot victory over Steve Kane, who finished with a 93. 2020 Player of the Year Tod Martin finished in solo 3rd with a 94, while Mike Scalera (4th – 95) and Brad Reynolds (5th – 96) rounded out the top 5.
In Division 5, Linda Bozada started her 2021 campaign with a one shot victory over Doug Sinn, Greg Miller, and Mike Pittroff, who finished 1 shot back of Bozada with rounds of 101. Curt Meyer rounded out the top 5 with a round of 102.
Continuing in 2021 is the optional net game, which gives players an opportunity to compete in a net competition against all flights. Top honors went to Chad Crawford, who bested the 41-player field with a 4-over 76, earning him a $200 prize. Chad Henry and Mark Lamoureux tied for 2nd with 77, earning $80 each, while Danny Graves finished in 4th place with 78 earning him $50.
From here, the APT moves to Winghaven Country Club on Monday, April 19th. The field is sold out at 112 spots, but waiting list spots are available. The St. Louis chapter will also compete in its first regional event with Nashville, Birmingham, and Memphis May 1st and 2nd at Tunica National in Tunica Resorts, MS. Sign up now to reserve your spot.
