West Virginia Local Finals Results

Jared Taylor led after a +1 round 1 over Frank Hewitt. Jared had locked up the D1 points championship going into the WV Tour Championship at Cobb Course. Jared however wanted to win in style and used 9 birdies on the weekend to defeat Frank by 12 shots and finish the weekend at +2.

While all eyes were on the battle between Lindy Sullivan and Tyler Hetzer for the D2 championship, Chuck Bays and Mike Elliott put on a good show to win the tournament. Chuck led after Day 1, but Mike Elliott stormed back on day 2 to win over Chuck by 3 shots, and getting Mike back on top of the podium to end the 2022 season. Tyler and Lindy battled head to head all day, where literally whoever finished ahead of the other would be champion. In the end, Tyler made up a 5 shot day 1 deficit to Lindy, but that was just good enough to settle for a 3rd place tie for the tournament, and handing Lindy the D2 championship.

Going into the championship, 4 players (Michael Heitz, Tink Brown, Dave Shepperd, and Craig Jackson) all had a shot at Player of the Year honors. The players knew of the scenarios that needed to take place to hoist the championship. For Michael however it was simple, just win and none of the scenarios matter. Win is what he did in dominating fashion, as he went wire to wire to not only win the tournament, but D3 POY honors. Michael led Mikey Carr by 5 shots after day 1, and went on to defeat Mikey by 8 shots overall.

The D4 championship was locked up going into the championship, as D4 POY Tyler Ellison skipped the tour championship all together as he went to celebrate in Spain. Last seasons D4 event here went to extra holes, where last years D4 champion Justin Keaton outlasted Joey Fyall on the 1st playoff hole to capture the tournament, and the championship. This year Joey would once again go to extra holes, this time against Matt McGee. One and two playoff holes were not enough, but the 3rd hole (#10 par 4) was the charm for Matt McGee as he captured his first tournament of the season and denied Joey his first win at Glade Springs.

The D5 championship has been decided for weeks, and POY Jason Hancock just coasted for the weekend until it was time to take home the trophy. A tournament still had to be played however, and it was a battle between Patrick McNeely and Mendy Bays. Mendy led after day 1, but Patrick was right there. Both players shared the lead or exchanged the lead multiple times throughout the final round; however it was the day 1 lead that gave Mendy enough of a cushion to capture her 2nd win of the year on the WV tour and end the season on top.

Congratulations to all of our champions and thanks to everyone who played this season. I look forward to seeing everyone in the fall series.

Thanks to Kyle and his team at Glade Springs for hosting us and having the course in excellent shape as always. Look forward to returning next season and for years to come to host our tour championship.
