The 2023 Calendar Season kicked off in Lancaster, SC with 99 Players from 7 different Chapters. Players experienced a cool winter morning with a bit of wind thrown in just to challenge the players even more. Edgewater, although still dormant, was in great shape with the bent grass greens that were sneaky fast. Except for one hole that had a pin placement that was unfair due to its placement on the green, the players enjoyed the competition that ensued throughout the day. I commend the players who came out today even with an early week forecast that called for rain most of the day. As it turned out, the rain held off until our ride home and made it for a very playable day.
In Division 1 we had 16 players compete on this day. Scott Roberts (CLT), Our reining Division 1 Player of the Year, picked up right where he left off with a 2 shot victory shooting (74, +2). Ivan Jones (TRI), co-chapter owner of the Carolina Triad Chapter finished in solo 2nd with a round of (76, +4). Rounding out the top 3 was actually a tie between Park Williams (TRI) and Daniel Jackson (CLT) with rounds of (77, +5).
The Senior Competition in Division 1 paid the top 2 spots with Scott Roberts (CLT) taking home 1st place honors and Park Williams (TRI) taking home 2nd. With the victories, Scott won a total of $425 which he elected to accept as tour credit to use for upcoming event entries.
Congrats Scott on your DOUBLE DIP!!
In Division 2, Josh Johnston (CLT) bested a field of 32 players on this chilly afternoon. Josh was promoted from Division 3 to Division 2 last year and has proven that his promotion to the higher flight was well earned. His score of (77, +5) was good enough to win by 1 shot. 2nd place was Chuck Nance (CLT), who is also our reining Charlotte Senior Division 2 Player of the Year. Chuck shot (78, +6). 3rd place was won by Bob Grove (UPS) who shot (79, +7). Bob is off to a great start this season as he is travelling around to the neighboring chapters and seeing his name near the top of the leaderboard each week. 4th place went to Chad Faulkenberry (CLT), making his first start on the APT tour shooting (80, +8). 5th place went to Jason Breedlove (CLT) shooting (82, +10) and rounding out the top 6 was actually a tie between Trent Little (CLT), Charles Devenney (CLT) and Marc Janse van Rensburg(CLT) who shot (83, +11). These players will split the 6th place prize.
On the Senior Side of things, Chuck Nance takes 1st and Bob Grove takes home 2nd.
Congrats Josh and Chuck on your victories today!!!
In Division 3 we had 22 players battle it out. It was a close battle all day long and when the dust settled, it was Jake Currie (CLT) taking the victory with a score of (82, +10). 2nd went to Freddie Coffey (UPS) with a score of (83, +11), Joe Cannatti (CLT) takes home 3rd place with a score of (84, +12) and rounding out the top 4 was Mitch Altman (CLT) with a score of (86, +14).
On the Senior side we had 6 players competing in this side competition so it was winner take all. Congratulations to Freddie Coffey for taking home the title.
Congrats Jake and Freddie on your victories today!!!
In Division 4, 15 players battled it out on this day. Mike Riley (CLT) was the winner in his first start on the APT with a round of (85, +13). Mike got off to a great start and was never really challenged on this day. 2nd place went to another newcomer to the APT, Myron Samuels (CLT) was all alone with a score of (88, +16). 3rd place went to Brian Gregor (AUG) who drove up from Hilton Head, SC to support and compete on this day. Brian shot (91, +19).
One the Senior Side, it was our open players who took the top 2 spots here as well. Mike Riley took home 1st and Myron Samuels took home 2nd place,
Congrats Mike on your DOUBLE DIP !!
In Division 5 there were 16 players battling out on this day. Coming in from Gaffney, SC it was Rodney Ferrell (UPS) with a 7-shot victory shooting (88, +16). This is the lowest round that Rodney has shot in a single day event over the past year. Great shooting today Rodney!. In 2nd place was a newcomer to the APT, Neal De la Cruz (CLT) who just started playing golf only a few years ago is working on his game and I’m sure we are going to see this player move up the leaderboard and the divisions as he continues to improve. Neal shot (95, +23) on this day. We had a Tie for 3rd between Patricio Lopez (CLT) and Doug Willie (CLT), both players shooting (96, +24)
One the senior Side, it was Patricio Lopez and Doug Willie with a Tie at the top. They will split the 1st and 2nd place prize pools.
Congrats Rodney, Patricio and Doug on your victories!!!
