A bright and Sunny afternoon greeted the players on Monday. It was very cold in the early morning hours which caused a change of start time and format. However, as the day went along, the sun warmed things up and with very little wind, it turned out to be a great day. As usual, the greens at the CC of Salisbury are some of the most pure and fast Bent Grass greens in this area. Of course, this made it very devilish to the players that are not familiar with this type of green speed.
In Division 1 we had our first back-to-back winner of the season. Tim Barto (CLT) claimed his 3rd victory in a row and 2nd in a row in Charlotte Chapter Events. Tim’s round of 2 over 73 was good for a 5 shot victory over Ivan Jones (TRI) who shot 78 (+7). Rounding out the top 3 was George Harris with a round of 80 (+9)
On the Senior Side, George Harris was the best of the 50+ year olds who double dipped on the day.
Congrats Tim and George!!
In Division 2, with 30 players in the field, Zachary Laws claimed victory with a fantastic round of 74 (+3). Since Zachary was a guest on the day, he was awarded a 2023 membership along with the remaining prizes as tour credit to be used for future event entries. 2nd Place goes to Johnny Moffett (CLT) with a score of 80 (+9). 3rd place went to Terry Newsome (TRI) with a score of 81 (+10) and we had a tie for 4th with Eric Stanwick (CLT) and Garrett Kiser (WV) both shooting 82 (+11).
On the Senior Side, it was Johnny Moffett who took 1st. Terry Newsome claimed 2nd and Eric Stanwick 3rd.
Congrats Zachary and Johnny!!!
In Division 3, another large field of 29 players battled it out on Monday afternoon. 18 holes was just not enough and two players Kirk Tatge (CLT) and Steven Henry (CLT) both shot 81 (+10). They went back to 18 and it only took 1 hole for Kirk to claim the victory. As a result, Kirk claims 1st and Steven settles for 2nd. Freddie Coffey (UPS) claims 3rd place shooting 84 (+13). Marc Janse van Rensburg claims 4th with a score of 85 (+14) and rounding out the top 5 was TJ Eaves (CLT) with a score of 87 (+16).
On the Senior side just like the open side, it was Kirk Tatge claiming the victory making it a true double dip and taking home $605 in total prizes for the day. 2ndwent to Freddie Coffey and rounding out the top 3 was Mark Blankenship (CLT) with a score of 88.
Congrats Kirk on your double Dip!!!
In Division 4 again needed extra holes to decide a victor. Jason Upright (CLT) and Myron Samuels (CLT) shot 86 (+15) to tie for the lead. They went back to the 18th hole to decide who would take home the trophy. Just like div 3, it only took one hole for Jason to claim victory. Myron settles for second place in the 4th consecutive event. Timmy Smith (TRI) and Jimmie Chapman (CLT) shared 3rd place honors with a score of 89 (+18).
On the Senior side, we paid out the top 2 places with Myron Samuels taking home 1st and Jimmie Chapman taking home 2nd.
Congrats Jason and Myron on your victories!!!
In Division 5 we had a small field on this day. And Mike Gray had a stellar day and blew the field away. His round of 84 (+13) was good enough for the Open and Senior Side victories on this day. With this result, Mike also earned a promotion to division 4 for his next event. Terry Bollenbecker (CLT) was 2nd best. Terry was also fortunate enough to win the 50/50 draw for Folds of honor on this day as well.
Congrats Mike on your Double Dip!!!
