Rhodes Ranch Golf Club hosted the Las Vegas Amateur Players Tour this past weekend the 2023 Spring Bash Championship and what a fun event. Players experienced perfect weather and an excellent conditioned golf course to battle for the beautiful trophies. The play did not disappoint, as several divisions came right down to the final few holes.
Division 1
After finishing second in Mesquite, Josh Crossen [151] came out firing on Saturday morning and took a 4-shot lead going into Sunday’s final round. Josh struggled some on the back nine but held on to win the trophy with a 4-shot victory over second place finisher Nicholas Kingston [155] from Phoenix. This is Josh’s second win on the APT – Las Vegas tour and has his sights set on the end of year National Championship in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Division 2
What a battle on Sunday as we had 3 players all within a few shots of each other but the solid play of Mike Brocki [148] who shot 70 to pull out the victory over second place finisher Curt Bressner [151]. This is Mike’s first victory on the APT and he is already signed up for some more tournaments.
Division 3
Playing very consistently over the two days really helps and this is what the Division 3 champ did. Gary Rapoza [165] fired 83,82 and held on to a 3 shot victory over hard charging Kevin Pietsch [169]. Ernie Alaan and Matt Baiza [170], both tied for third. This is only Gary’s second year playing golf and first year on the APT. Congratulations Gary on securing your first championship.
Division 4
What a battle we had in Division 4. Chase Burbank [163] opened up with a division low 76 on Saturday, only to be caught by Mike Raushenberger [167] at the end of the first nine on Sunday. Chase battled hard and Mike was pushing as well, until the difficult 17th and 18th holes that reared their difficulty as he fell back a few shots but secured second place. Joey Filippi [174] took third. Chase rolled in a 4-footer on 18 to secure the 3 shot victory. This is Chase’s second championship on the APT as he has been pushing hard in his improvement with one of our tour sponsor’s Joe Brown from Empower Golf.
Division 5
Matt Walden [183] DID it again and secured yet another championship on the APT tour securing a 3 shot victory over second place Wesley Raynor [186]. This championship was up for grabs a few times on the back nine, but the steady play from the tour veteran made the difference.
Senior Net
Mark Smith had the lead in Division 2 but a bad break on hole 15 with a lost ball cost him the Division 2 Championship, but Mark won the Senior Net Championship with a 4-shot victory over second place Mark Hawley [148] and tournament sponsor Ed Norton [148] with Norton Consulting & Investigation. Way to hang tough Mark and secure your second Senior Net Championship
Congratulations to all the Champions at the Spring Bash 2023.
