Houston APT tour ventured to the north side of Houston for the latest tournament held at the Golf Club at Margaritaville Lake Resort in Conroe, TX. The layout of the course provided significant challenges for golfers not able to find the narrow tree-lined fairways. When golfers did find the fairway, they were typically presented with good scoring opportunities.
Division 1 saw DFW member Fraser Singleton (73) claim his 3rd consecutive win on the APT tour. Tyler Dawson (79) found trouble on the front, but kept pressure on Fraser with a solid 1-under on the back 9 for second place. Philip Littlefield (83) finished in third.
Division 2 looked to have a run-away winner as Jason McCain (80) went into the turn with a 7-shot lead and had to work hard down the stretch to hold on to a 1st place finish. Second place went to Jason Hawthorne (84) who put pressure on the leader but was unable to overcoming the front 9 deficit. Troy White (88) finished in third.
Division 3 winner Pat Ryan (83) entered the turn with a 4-shot lead and didn’t let up on the back 9 to claim 1st. Tony Rose (92) finished in second and George Carlisle (93) finished in third.
Division 4 was again a hotly contested race with three players tied for the top spot! Allen Hall (86), Ben Sandoval (86) and Doyle Wofford (86) headed back out to the first hole for a playoff. Allen Hall from DFW earned 1st place when he holed his par putt. Ben and Doyle tied for second. Charles Ackerman (88) finished in fourth.
Division 5 wanted to add to the playoff excitement as Carolina Ackerman (98) and Eddie Haynes (98) entered the clubhouse in a tie. Both players headed back to the first tee and it looked like Carolina was in the drivers seat as Eddie’s tee shot found the trees on the left. Playing smart and putting the ball back into the fairway allowed Eddie to recover and win the playoff. John Headley (109) finished third.
First place in the Senior Net Division went to Doyle Wofford (+3). Pat Ryan (+5) finished in second while George Carlisle (+9) and Eddie Haynes (+9) tied for third.
Congratulations to all the winners!
