The Amateur Players Tour made a stop at Bentwater Golf Club on August 12th, 2023. The weather was hot and steamy, and then the afternoon thunderstorms were the story of the day. The event was shortened in each division and OPTIONAL side games were shortened to nine holes. Forty-eight players teed it up for a share of the nearly $2500 in total prizes.
Division 1 players made it all the way through 15 holes before play was called for the day. Adam Yarbrough overcame an early double bogey and played steady the rest of the day to post +2. Derek Foulke struggled on the final three holes played which opened the door for Adam’s first victory on tour. Adam was awarded the trophy and the $200 first place prize.
Division 2 also produced a first-time winner on tour as Kyle Rylee used a few birdies to cruise to his victory. James Teston and Steven Hearn both posted +7 to tie for second. Kyle posted +2 to earn the trophy and the $230 first place prize.
Division 3 didn’t want to be left out of the party as Trevor Odom was able to pull away from the rest of the field to secure his first victory on tour. Due to the weather this contest was scored over ten holes. Trevor posted +7 to take a two-shot victory over Bill Rose. Trevor was awarded the trophy and the $230 first place prize.
Once again Bentwater produced a first-time winner on tour as Alan Campbell was able to pull away from the field. This event was shortened to just nine holes as the weather turned as the final D4 group was making the turn. Alan was awarded the trophy and the first-place prize of $210. Alan was also victorious in the popular Sr Net Event. Alan was also awarded the trophy for that and another $140 in prizes.
Doug Gibbs, the Division 5 champion, was the only winner on the day that was not a first-time winner. Doug made a birdie on his final hole to end up tying with Bill Ryan. Due to weather in the area and course conditions these players split the prize pool money. Since there was no on course playoff, a scorecard playoff was used to give Doug the trophy and first place points towards Player of the Year.
Next up for the Amateur Players Tour-Atlanta is a member only event at Brookstone Country Club on August 27th. This is a limited field event open only to members of the Amateur Players Tour. This is a max field of thirty-six players and a waitlist is close to forming.
