2024 Greer Golf Tournament Results

Close battles for the lead played out in all ten divisions on Saturday as the Upstate Amateur Players Tour hosted its tournament at the Greer Golf Club on Saturday. A sold-out field took on the Upstate course, competing for $5,300 in cash and VISA gift card prizes. The Upstate Amateur Players Tour travels North and South Carolina, offering golfers of all skill levels to compete in ten different divisions at some of the best courses in the area.  

The golfers had to overcome wet conditions as rain throughout the area on Friday left the course drenched before it began to dry out on Saturday. The greens at Greer Golf Club were in excellent condition for the tournament as the golfers were treated to an Upstate golf course that has undergone quite the renovations over the last few years. 

Last year, the club announced it would be investing over $2 million to redo its golf course, creating a world-class environment for fellowship and golf. The course is owned and operated by the City of Greer and is considered a hidden treasure in the Upstate.  

Saturday also brought a new record for the Upstate Amateur Players Tour as the tournament featured 24 competitors in Division 1, the most of any tournament since the tour started here.  

Here’s a breakdown of Saturday’s results by division: 

Division 1 – Eighteen holes were not enough to crown a winner in the top division on Saturday, as Brandon Pearson was eventually declared the winner in a playoff. Pearson and Walker Redmon finished tied atop the leaderboard with rounds of two under par 70.  

Pearson was red-hot on the front nine, making four birdies and an eagle, carding a four under 32 to start the day. On the back nine, Pearson parred seven of the holes to hold a share of the lead. Redmon made a late charge with two back nine birdies to pull even with Pearson.  

Joshua Phillips and Greg Moore tied for third place with rounds of 71. After two bogeys in his first three holes, Phillips proceeded to play the rest of his round in three under par. Moore’s round included four birdies on the front nine.  

Shayne Burger rounded out the top-five in the division, carding an even par round of 72. 

Senior Division 1 – While Greg Moore came up one shot short in Division 1, his one under par round of 71 was enough to clear him by one stroke to win Senior Division 1 on Saturday. Moore found his groove early, birding his first and third holes of the day to move to two under par. Moore shot three under par 33 on the outward nine.  

Shayne Burger finished runner-up after posting a round of even par. Burger stole the lead early with two birdies on his first two holes, helping him settle into the round. A steady string of pars on the back nine kept Burger within striking distance, as he also birdied the par-four 16^th hole.  

Jacob Sigmon shot 76 to finish third as Dan Constantino and Brandt Howard rounded out the top-five with rounds of 84 and 86, respectively.  

Division 2 – Bobby Ream staved off a late charge from Carlos Santana to win Division 2 on Saturday with a round of 74. Ream played his final four holes in even par, including a birdie on the par-five 15^th hole to claim the top spot. Santana finished just one shot back, posting a round of 75. Santana made two back nine birdies but made two bogies in his final four holes.  

Jeff Pittillo shot one under par on the front nine en route to his 76 to finish in third place. A steady start for Pittillo included two birdies and just one bogey on the outward nine. Derek Godfrey finished tied for fourth place along with Garrett Blyler.  

Godfrey played his final five holes in one under par to shoot 77, as Blyler found two birdies to close the front nine on the eighth and ninth holes. 

Senior Division 2 – Bobby Ream’s round of two over par 74 was also good enough to earn him the top honors in Senior Division 2 on Saturday. Ream defeated Jeff Pittillo by just two strokes to win the division. Ream made four birdies on the day, including three on the front nine.  

Pittillo managed to clear the pair of third place finishers by three shots, thanks largely in part to his one under round of 35 on the front nine. Robert LaCombe and Mitch Howze finished ties for third after carding rounds of 79. Joe Tucker rounded out the top-five with a round of 80. 

Division 3 – Todd Lynch delivered on his final hole of the day, making birdie on the closing hole to win by two shots in Division 3 on Saturday. Lynch made two birdies in his final eight holes, proving to be enough to hoist the trophy after the round.  

David Huff had a steady day on the course, accounting for 10 pars on the day, including six on his first seven holes. Huff posted a score of 80 to finish second.  

Tommy Boyter, John Benton, and Shawn Powers all tied for third place with rounds of 82. Boyter found his groove with four pars to close his round as Benton’s day was highlighted by two birdies, including one on the last hole of the round. Powers made six pars on the front nine, putting himself in position going to the final stretch.  

Senior Division 3 – Todd Lynch’s cushion in Senior Division 3 was a little more comfortable as the Greer native added a birdie on the last hole as an exclamation point to win the division with a round of 78. Tommy Boyter finished second, four shots back after shooting 82. Boyter tied with John Benton and Shawn Powers who also shot 82.  

Ronnie Strange concluded the top-five with a round of 83, highlighted by a birdie on the par-three sixth hole.  

Division 4 – Two birdies on the final two holes proved to be the difference for James Gravley, as the Travelers Rest native scored the victory with a round of 84 in Division 4 on Saturday. Gravley was locked in tight competition with Maurice Sherman, who finished runner-up after posting a round of 86. 

Gravley played his final five holes in one under par to take the top spot. Sherman finished second as his round was highlighted by two birdies on the inward nine. Steve Bisson finished third, posting a round of 87, followed by Rob Costello in fourth place with an 88. Greer native Marvin A. Jackson rounded out the top-five with a round of 89. 

Senior Division 4 – While Maurice Sherman came up just short in Division 4 on Saturday, the Simpsonville native’s efforts were enough to win Senior Division 4. Sherman shot 86 to win by three over Marvin A. Jackson. Sherman birdied the par-four 11^th hole before his birdie on the par-three 17^th hole.  

Jackson finished runner-up and found his groove on the back nine with three pars in a four-hole stretch to stay in the hunt. Sitty Mendez shot 91 to finish third, followed by Robert Gibson who shot 92. Darrell Arledge finished fifth after carding a 97. 

Division 5 – Three pars in his final four holes lifted Ellis Horton to victory on Saturday in Division 5 with a round of 89. Horton buckled down on his final stretch to secure the win by the narrowest of margins over second place finisher Michael Shirley, who shot 90. Tim Kunkel shot 95 to finish third, as Kenneth Tadlock and Eric Barnes tied for fourth place with rounds of 97.  

Senior Division 5 – Tim Kunkel carded a round of 95 to win Senior Division 5 by three shots on Saturday. Kunkel made pars on two of his last three holes. Danny Sullivan was runner-up in the division after posting a round of 98, followed by Dick Jenkins in third with a score of 100.
