Finally, a day with no rain!  We went to the desert for this Desert Classic event.  The Westin Mission Hills Pete Dye course was in great shape and the staff treated us well, with great customer service.  Not our largest tournament this season but a great field of players were ready to play on this 83-degree slight breeze beautiful day.

Division 1: Division 1 Had our smallest field of the 2024 season, but Twin Oaks champion Jack Dudeck (Fargo, ND) was back for his second shot and a chance to win again.  Eloy Rodriguez (Riverside, CA) and Twon Fullman (Foothill Ranch, CA) were also strong contenders to win.  It was a tight race after the front nine with Jack holding a 1 shot lead over Eloy.  Unfortunately, Twon injured his arm on hole 5 and was unable to continue his round.  That left Jack Dudeck (Fargo, ND) and Eloy Rodriguez (Riverside, CA) to battle it out. Jack played a strong back nine with 3 birdies and a back nine of 33 to take The Desert Classic Win.  This is his second win on the tour this season in two starts and both rounds he shot even par 72 and 70.

Division 2: Can you say three peat?  Angel Sotelo (Downey, CA) was at it again!  After winning his first two events on tour he was back to go for the three peat!  Some new faces emerged in Division 2 this tournament.  Austin Green (Corona, CA) Darren Lewis (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) and Dr. Vincent De Pinto (La Quinta, CA) Champion of our Pacific Classic Major at Rams Hill were all ready to give Angel Sotelo a test.  Angel got off to a rough start taking a triple bogey on the first hole! However, no one else in the field had a great start all shooting 5,6, or 7 over on the front nine. As they made the turn Angel continued to improve his play and ended up shooting a 76 on par 70 course to take the three peat and The Desert Classic Trophy.  Austin Green and Vincent De Pinto ended up tied with 82 to split second place.

Division 3: Tustin Ranch Winner Drew Perez (Downey, CA) has been playing some really good golf and again was in contention to win the desert classic.  Twin Oaks Champ Craig Ogden Jr. (Hemet, CA) was also playing well, along with tour veteran Scott Chalayan Cessna (Anaheim, CA) and returning to the field John Dwyer III (Ventura, CA). Drew was off to a rough start with a triple at #8 and a front nine 42.  Craig Ogden also shot a front nine 42 along with a 43 from John Dwyer III.  Drew got a little rocky in the middle of his back nine, taking three double bogeys in a row, but finished par, par, to shoot 83, 13 over.  John Dwyer III needed to finish strong but ended up taking a double bogey on the 18th, to end up finishing second.  Drew wins again but with some serious challenge from the field.  We wish him luck at the Scottsdale, AZ major next week.

Division 4:  The song remains the same in Division 4 as once again Ryan Maramis (Corona, CA) shot an 83 to take the desert classic. He won by 6 shots over second place winner Ted Masek (Rancho Mirage, CA) who joined us again after healing from some broken ribs.  Also, a strong showing from Layton Torres (Temecula, CA) who finished third.  Also special mention to Brad Forsyth (Alta Loma, CA) who we nearly lost in December and January of this year as he battled some lung and breathing challenges.  It was great to see him out competing again and ended up winning Closest to the Pin on #3 and won $59! Good job Brad.

Division 5: Wow was Division 5 a tight race from beginning to end, literally the last putt as we went to a playoff for the 4th straight tournament in division 5!  Jacob Maramis (Corona, CA) Stephen Julius (Fullerton, CA) and Ronak Desai (Irvine, CA) all were battling to the end. This time Jacob and Stephen tied with 18 over 88 scores with some great playing and Stephen made par on 18 to push it to a playoff.  On the first playoff hole Jacob was able to make par and take home his third win of the season.

Senior Net contest: Tommy Weatherby (Sun City, CA) decided to get in the Senior Net contest today and good thing he did as he shot a 1 under 69 to win Senior Net and $170.  Coming in second with a 70 was guest Stephen Julius (Fullerton, CA) who returned from our Member/Guest tournament.

Open Net Contest: We had a tie in our Open Net contest as both Eloy Rodriguez (Riverside, CA) and Ryan Maramis (Corona, CA) both shot 1 under 69’s and ended up splitting first and second prize both taking home $110 each.  Eloy took the trophy as Ryan won the trophy in Division 4.

Congratulations to all of our winners!
