On June 7th, 2021, the Iowa APT held their one and only event in the great state of Missouri. Kirksville Country Club was host to our 6th event of the season, thus reaching the halfway point in the Iowa APT schedule. We could not have asked for better conditions for our 24 players to battle it out, on this beautiful June day. With rain looming in the distance, players were able to complete their rounds, about an hour before the rain decided to cut loose. The average pace of play for this event was 4 hours and 30 minutes.
Division one winner Dave Shalley (75) was able to walk away with his first APT win. Kirksville CC is Shalley’s home course and while the rest of the field struggled with the lightning-fast greens and thick rough, Shalley was able to post an impressive +4 for the day.
Division two winner Garrett Wilson (80) made the trip up from Kansas City to test his skills against the Iowa players. Wilson Started with a double on the first hole but managed to settle himself and finish the front at 42 while posting an impressive 38 on the back. Wilson finished with a 8 stroke lead over 2nd place Daryl Wolff (88).
Division three came down to a playoff once again. Last week’s winner Nathan Simler (83) posted a solid score at his home course, however, it was not enough to walk away with the trophy. Paul Schmitz (83) posted his season best round to tie Simler, which would lead to a two-hole playoff where Simler would be victorious.
Division four winner, Robert Vincent (95) finished with a one stroke lead over second place finisher Ryan Hohanshelt (96). Vincent has played in three of our Iowa events and this makes for his second win. Vincent started out a bit shaky on the front 9 with a 50 but was able to regain control and finish strong with a 45 on the back 9. After a rough start on the front with a 52, Hohanshelt fought to take the lead posting a 44 on the back, but it was not enough to take the win from Vincent.
Division five saw some of it’s best scores posted this year with some of the boys from Lewis County Missouri, that arrived in style on a party bus. One of which ended up being our division five winner, Cody Wilson (89). Wilson finished with a 2-stroke lead over Robert Rosenbaum (91) of Kansas City.
Congratulations to all of our winners. We look forward to seeing everyone at our next event in Waveland Iowa on June 27th. Here are our upcoming events:
