2024 Northstone Country Club Tournament Results

Partly cloudy skies greeted the 95 players who came out to a Player favorite at Northstone CC. in Huntersville, NC.  The course just hosted their Men’s Club championship over the weekend, so the course was in great shape.  The rough was up and made hitting the fairways a premium on this day. 
 

In Division 1, 22 Players teed it up and we had another first-time winner.  Britton Smith (CLT) who is heading to college in the coming days made his last start of the season a winning one.  Britton shot an exceptional round of 71 (-1) to secure a 2 shot victory over John Masotti (Triad).  We had a Tie for third with Tim Barto (CLT) and Will Morgan (Triad) both shoot 74 (+2) to share 3^rd and 4^th place prize money. 

On the Senior Side, we had a Tie for the win with Greg Moore (Upstate) and George Harris (CLT) take first place honors with both players shooting 80 (+8)

In Division 2, We had 28 golfers battle it out.  Brandon Mabe (UPS) shot a great round of 77 (+5) to capture the victory.  Anthony Pecora (CLT) takes home solo second with a score of 80 (+8).  Garrett Helms takes home 3^rd with a score of 81 (+9) and then we had a 4-way tie for 4^th between Mac McMillan (Triad), John Wayne Parrish (Triad), Terry Newsome (Triad) and Tony Mangini all sharing 4^th place awards. 

On the Senior side, it was a 3-way tie for the win with McMillan, Parrish and Newsome all claiming the top honors.

20 players started in Division 3 and produced our only playoff on the day.  After 18 holes, Brandon Halsey (CLT) and Dallas Penrod tied with scores of 79 (+7).  The Playoff took three holes to complete with Halsey winning with a par on the 3^rd playoff hole.  Chase Nifong (CLT) takes home solo third with a score of 81 (+9) and Robert Gruendel takes home solo 4^th with a score of 82 (+10). 

On the senior side, Tracy Brown (CLT) takes home first place honors with a score of 85 (+13) and Lawrnce Daniels (UPS) take second with a score of 90 (+18)

Division 4 saw 17 players tee it up and it was close at the top as the competition strong.  Eric Sage (UPS) made it to the top spot with a score of 83 (+11) and won by 1 shot over Calvin Carter (CLT) who has seen his game come around in the past month.  Calvin’s score of 84 (+12)   was good enough for 2^nd place.  Third went to Fred Heintz (CLT) who shot an 85 (+13). 

On the senior Side, Calvin Carter claims the victory and an addition $170 in winnings.  Robert Gibson (UPS) took home second place with a score of 88 (+16)

Division 5 saw Steve Kwon (CLT) post a victory in bac to back days and strengthen his lead in the Division 5 Player of the Year race.  Steve’s score of 98 (+26) was good for a 4-stroke victory over Bill Sturgeon who shot a 103(+30) and grabbed the second-place honors. 

On the senior Side it was Terry Bollenbecker (CLT) claiming his first win of the season and some valuable senior POY points. 

Congrats to the champions. We have just one more local event left at Cheraw State Park on the 24^th of August.  Mark your calendars for the Local Final on Sept. 7^th and 8^th at Sapona Ridge CC (Combo with Triad).  Spots are limited, so please sign up early and guarantee your spot in the field to grab those valuable POY points.   

It has been a phenomenal year with record membership and tournament participation.  The fall season is being planned and will be announced in the coming weeks.
