The Elevated Event at Eagle Glen Corona, CA
Well California has been in a heat wave in the hundreds the past week and it was going to a HOT one at our last elevated event of 2024. Players from NorCal, Las Vegas, along with our largest event of the season at 62 players.
We were set up for a good day of competition on a challenging golf course. Nature were trying to stay cool as Deer were out on the course and one group was shocked as they spotted a mountain lion close by as they teed off.
Let’s see how the day played out….
Division 1: We had a nice field of 12 D1 players, including New years eve bash champion Sahir Balyan, Josh Crossen from (Las Vegas,NV) along with season points leader Elliott Sherrill (Brea, CA). It was a historic day as a tremendous round was being played by Sahir. Spencer Payne (Yuciapa, CA) was pushing him and made the turn at -2. New player Jason Temel was also playing well and finished 2nd with a score of -1 71. However it was Sahir Baylan’s (Santa Clarita, CA) day. A string a birdies and some strong golf had him shoot a record round of -8, 64! Sahir took home first place and the $400 prize which as a college golfer, made him our first 2025 member and money into his tournament credit.
Division 2: We had a fresh new field of golfers for our division 2. Season points leaders Angel Sotelo (Downey, CA) was back in the field along with newcomers Steve Duncan (Banning, CA) and Duke Perezedenti (Bellflower, CA), along with NorCal Player of the year Felix Monjex (Tracy, CA) and Matt Baiza from (Las Vegas, NV). After the front nine it was clear it was a 3 man race with Duke at +1 and Angel at even par and Matt close behind at +3. Duke made 3 birdies on the back nine, but the most critical was on 18. Angel had to make birdie on 18 to force a playoff and came away with a par and a great round of 73 to take 2nd. Duke being first time on tour and with a great round of even 72 took home the trophy became our 2nd member for the 2025 season and tour credit for his victory. Duke with his 72 will be promoted into division 1, next time out, since it was his only round on tour. Congrats Duke!
Division 3: John Dwyer III (Ventura, CA) leading points player in Division 3, was not in the field, leaving the door open for the chasers. Scott Chalayan Cessna (Anaheim, CA), Andres Viramontes (Murrieta, CA), Ryan Maramis (Corona, CA) Craig Ogden (Hemet, CA) and Ryan Encinas, (Oceanside, CA) all had a chance to capitalize. Over $1000 was on the line with our largest field in history of 21 Division 3 players and first place of $475! Andres Viramontes has battled all summer, playing in Missouri, New York, and still hadn’t broke thru with a win in 13 tournaments, but today was different with a 37 on the front nine. Jose Garcia (Lake Elsinore, CA) had a tough front nine of 43 and didn’t appear to be in contention along with Will Kamp (Los Angelas, CA). On the back nine, Andres sometimes would take a big number, but today he broke through with an amazing round of 75, to take first place and $475! Jose Garcia kept battling and shot even par on the back nine for a 79 and second place money! The player of the year points race is tight with 5-6 guys all in the hunt.
Division 4: Kurt Odegard (Anaheim Hills, CA) Marty Rinehart (Upland, CA) and Jacob Maramis (Corona, CA) all 3 players in Division 4 season points race were in the field. Along with Joshua Carter (Yorba Linda, CA), new member Tim Rohrer (San Diego, CA). Joshua started off strong with a front nine of 39 but Tim was keeping pace just 3 shots back. Joshua put together a strong back nine also at 39 and with a great round of 78! It’s a good thing he was a validated player with 7 or more rounds on tour, as his score could have gotten him disqualified winning by 6 shots over second, but today was his day and $400 first place. Tim also played well, but took a triple on 18, but it was still strong enough for second and $200. Kurt finished third and put himself in position to battle it out with Marty and Jacob. With the strong performances, Joshua and Tim both now have division 3 index and will be promoted. Great playing guys!
Division 5: Kirk Olmos (Moreno Valley, CA) Ronak Desai (Irvine, CA) Dennis McZeal (Fontana, CA), Tommy Weatherby (Menifee, CA), Armondo Aguirre (Murrieta, CA) all in the field and battling hard. Ronak and Armondo were first group out and set a strong pace both shooting great division 5 scores of 89 and 90. That would make it a challenge for the rest of the division 5 field. Tommy was playing well along with Kirk but they couldn’t afford any mistakes to keep pace. Tommy shot a great back nine with a 42, with pars on 16,17, and 18 to tie Ronak with an 89 and force a playoff! Ronak sitting in the clubhouse waiting for his trophy now had to warm up and go play some more golf. The first playoff hole Tommy just missed his par putt, and Ronak capitalized and took home his first victory of the season after finishing second 3 times! Congrats Ronak and welcome to the player of the year chase!
Senior Net contest: Tommy Weatherby (Menifee, CA) with his great round of 89 in division 5, gave him a net score of 67 and first place and $300 in senior net. He took home the bourbon glasses and bottle of Kentucky bourbon! Mark Elliott, (Corona, CA) second with a 70 and $160, and Marty Rinehart, (Upland, CA) third with a 72 and $100.
Open Net Contest: We had a tie in our Open Net contest as Joshua Carter (Yorba Linda, CA) and Andres Viramontes, (Murrieta, CA) both shot great rounds leading to a net score of 65. They split first and second place money each earning $340. Ronak Desai came in 3rd and took $125 and Angel Sotelo 4th with a 69 and $75.
