Tournament Champions
On Sunday, the St. Louis chapter headed to Far Oaks Golf Club in Caseyville, IL. 117 players teed it up on a perfect day for golf, and scores would be low as the golf course was in fantastic shape, with newly renovated bunkers that were in beautiful condition.
In Division 1, Joseph Chiarrottino took advantage of the great scoring conditions as he started on a tear with four birdies on the front nine en route to a front nine 32. No one would be able to make it close as Chiarrotino added 3 more birdies with only a falter on Hole 12 that ended up a 6-under 66 and the lowest score in the St. Louis chapter this season. Marco Tallerico carded a 1-under 71 to finish in solo 2nd place. On the senior side, Justin Towell earned the win, firing a 2-over 74 to edge John Todd by one stroke.
In Division 2, Eric Fogleman played his best round yet on the APT, firing a 34 on the front to take the lead to the back 9. A solid 1-over performance through the tricky finishing stretch at Far Oaks led to a 1-under 71 and a 2 shot victory. Stuart Pryor continued his solid play with a 1-over par 73, while Josh DeJarnette, Chad Henry, Mike Mervis and Zach Bryan each finished in a tie for 3rd place with 2-over par 74s. On the senior side, Mike Mervis earned the victory with a 2-over 74, with Kent Van Cleve finishing in the runner-up position with a 3-over 75. Mike Lingenfelter and Scott Horton finished just 2 back with solid rounds of 4-over par 76.
In Division 3, 18 holes would not be enough to decide a winner, as Mike Burch and Dave Verhulst both posted great rounds of 4-over par 76 on a day where scores were low across the board. Mike Burch had turned in a career best round to earn his way into a playoff. On the first playoff hole, Burch was able to calm the nerves and earn a par to secure his first victory on the Amateur Players Tour. Donald Chase played solid, shooting a 77 to finish in solo 3rd, while Tony Arcese continued his solid play with a 79 to finish in solo 4th. Schooner Fitzgerald and Brian Chilton finished at 8-over par 80 to round out the top 5. On the senior side, Dave Verhulst earned a 4 shot victory with his 76 over Schooner Fitzgerald and Brian Chilton, who tied for 2nd place with rounds of 80.
In Division 4, Matt Hall followed up his win at the Orchards Golf Club with an impressive 80 to earn a 2-shot victory over Rei Nakamura, who finished solo 2nd with an 82. Hall showed impressive composure with a crazy front 9 that featured an eagle on the opening hole and a triple on the 3rd, but Hall steadied and played solid on the back to secure the victory! Allen Starnes and Adam Taylor finished in a tie for 3rd place with rounds of 83, while David King rounded out the top 5 with a steady 84. On the senior side, Matt Hall completed the double-dip victory with his 80, with Les Mays and David King finished 4-shots back with rounds of 84.
In Division 5, the division would be extremely competitive with 5 players within 4 shots of the lead. Selena Droce would join the winners circle with a round of 88 to best Clinton Malter by one after his round of 89. Dane Kearns would earn third place with his solid round of 90, while Chris Brockmeyer would finish in 4th with a 91. On the senior side, Chris Brockmeyer and Kevin Brown would tie for the title with a 91 and split points and prize pool, with Byron Whitlock would round out the top-3 with a 92.
