Amateur Players Tour of Southwest Florida Tournament Recap

IMG Academy Golf Club – September 7, 2024

On September, 7, one week after the Labor Day holiday, the Southwest Florida Chapter of the Amateur Players Tour visited the IMG Academy Golf Club in Bradenton Florida for their Local Finals event of the 2024 season!   38 players showed up to compete in the final event before the APT National Finals.  The weather and the course were perfect for the golf tournament.  Highlights of the day included:

    • Division 1:  Robert Greene led after the front nine with a score of 37. The field was closely packed, with Ryan Silvestri 4 shots behind on 41 and Preston Bridges and Frank Almasy 6 shots back with scores of 43. Despite solid back nines from Silvestri (39), Bridges (37), and Almasy (39), Greene maintained his lead with a total of 76 (+4). His consistent play across both nines was key to holding off the competition.
    • Division 2: Aystin Martinez led Division 2 after the first nine holes with a score of 38. Daren Green was 1 shot behind with a 39, and Nick Westbrook was 3 shots back with a 41. Bruce Killian and Chason Rockymore were further behind with front nine scores of 40 and 42, respectively. Martinez struggled on the back nine, shooting 42, but Nick Westbrook capitalized with a strong back nine of 38, finishing with a total of 79 (+7) to win the division. Green’s back nine of 41 and Martinez’s 42 put them in a tie for second place with scores of 80 (+8).
    • Division 3: Shamsundar (Sham) Baichoo was the leader after the front nine with a score of 41. Stephen Leadbetter was 3 shots behind with a 44, and Brett Enos trailed by 5 shots with a 46. Mark Howard and Chris Scott were also further back with scores of 45. Baichoo’s steady play continued with a back nine of 40, giving him a total of 81 (+9) for the win. Leadbetter and Enos made strong comebacks, with Leadbetter shooting a 41 on the back nine and Enos a 39, leading to a tie for second place with scores of 85 (+13).
    • Division 4:   Milton Rashid led Division 4 after the front nine with a score of 42. Manuel Collins was 4 shots behind with a 46, while Enrique Young and others were trailing with higher scores. Rashid’s back nine of 45 was enough to secure his win with a total of 87 (+15). Collins improved with a back nine of 46, finishing second with 92 (+20). The other competitors, including Young, Hull, Shockey, and Wojcik, had mixed back nine performances but ultimately finished behind Rashid.
    • Division 5: Andrew Lampert led Division 5 after the first nine holes with a score of 48. Despite his strong start, Lampert struggled on the back nine, shooting 54. His total of 102 (+30) was still enough to secure the win. Greg Gastfield, who was behind after the front nine with a score of 49, finished with a back nine of 56, resulting in a total of 105 (+33) and securing second place. David Densieski, who was also trailing, finished third with a total score of 106 (+34) after a back nine of 50.
    • Senior Net: We had good participation with 14 out of the 21 eligible players participating!  In the end, it was D3 player, Mark Howard who took home the win with an impressive 2-under par!  Manuel Collins was right behind him with a 1-under round!  Bruce Killian took third with an even par round.

A huge thank you goes out to Steve Strasbaugh and the entire staff at IMG Academy Golf Club for having the course in such excellent condition!  Everyone enjoyed the fast greens and the nearly perfect fairways!

Our next event is at River Hall in Alva, and it will be on October 20.  Remember, the more players we get, the bigger the payouts!  Sign up now for your spot to play!  Registration closes on October 13!
