Tournament Champions
The APT headed out west for the first time in 2025 to the APT Red Rock Championship in St. George, UT, hosted by Black Desert Resort with Saturday’s first round being played at The Ledges of St. George. The Ledges of St. George features a fun layout with stunning views of the Red Rocks and Mountains that make southern Utah one of the most picturesque and beautiful areas in the country. Black Desert Resort is set in a stunning area of black lava rock, and in its short history has hosted both the PGA Tour and the LPGA Tour, quickly gaining recognition as one of the top golf destinations in America.
In Division 1, Kyle Meade (Las Vegas) set the early tone by jumping out to an early lead in Round 1, but a late bogey allowed Matt Fegley (Northern California) to sneak into a tie for 1st with both players firing a 1st round 1-over par 73. The chasers were lurking, and a crowded field behind included defending 2024 North American Champion and National Player of the Year Andrew Echard (Utah). As expected, Echard made a charge to chase down 1st round co-leader Matt Fegley, featuring a battle that featured both the defending Division 1 and Division 2 North American Champions. Despite a stumble on the tricky par-5 13th hole, Fegley was able to hold on to earn a 3-shot victory firing rounds of 73-80 to finish at 153. Andrew Echard finished in 2nd place at +12.
In Division 2, Rocky Dare (New Jersey/Philadelphia) jumped out to an early lead with an impressive 74 on day 1. He would be chased by Brandon Ballif (Utah) who fired a first round 77 and Tony White (Kentucky) and Curt Bressner (Phoenix) who shot 78 to put themselves in position for a Sunday charge on the difficult Black Desert course. Sunday would belong to Brandon Ballif (Utah), who used his local knowledge to fire the best round of the day, a 75 that would see him earn a 2-shot victory over Rocky Dare who finished at +10. 3rd place honors went to Chris Denz (Virginia Capital) and Curt Bressner (Phoenix) who each finished at a respectable +15. The top 5 was rounded out by Tony White (Kentucky) at +16, while Bill McKiegan (Phoenix) and Alec Rosales (Utah) rounded out the money at +17.
Division 3 was dominated by Utah players, as 6 of the top-10 in Division 3 live in the state of Utah. Tyler Moffett (Utah) came from way behind as he trailed by 8 going into Sunday by shooting a final round 80 that was the best in the division by 5 strokes to earn a 2-shot victory over Cody Bean (Utah) and Ryan Alvord (Utah) who finished at +25. Scott Fowles (Utah) finished in 4th place at +26, while Warren Hackler (Carolina East) and Nick Girard (Seattle) rounded out the top-5 at +27. Scott Gennusa (Kansas City) rounded out the money in 7th place at +28.
In Division 4, the leaderboard was stacked after Round 1 with a ton of players within 4 shots of lead. Curtis Sharp (Utah) led by one with an 87 on Saturday at The Ledges of St. George. Sunday would belong to Michael Dunn (Utah), who fired an 85 to break away from the back and earn a 5-shot victory over Curtis Sharp who finished at +34. 3rd place honors went to Garvice Eakins (Utah) and Mark Amann (Utah), who finished at +36. Michael Greenhawt (Utah) finished in solo 5th at +37, while Stevie Frank (St. Louis) and Shiv kumar Subramaniam (Seattle) rounded out the money at +40.
In Division 5, Jim Dean (Utah) had his career best round on the APT at The Ledges on Saturday, firing an 87 to take a 7 shot lead into Sunday’s final round. As normally the case in majors, sleeping on a lead in a major proved to be a difficult task yet again as Bret Strong (Utah) fired an impressive 91 at a difficult Black Desert course to finish at +41 and earn a 2-shot victory over Jim Dean. Jake Alvey (Utah) finished in 3rd place at +47, while Ben Walden (Utah) finished in 4th to round out the money at +48.
