It was a beautiful but breezy 75 degree day for our Spring Kickoff event at WinterStone Golf Club in Independence, Missouri. With 110 players spread across five divisions, there was plenty of competition and some close finishes throughout the day.
In Division 1, it was a tight race between 3 veteran players. Starting strong, Kory Glasgow finished the front nine at even par with Jacob Bruhn only a couple strokes behind. With three birdies on the back nine, Rylan Schuster made a run but was unable to stave off Jacob’s strong push. Congratulations to Jacob Bruhn on the first win of the season with a 73, with Kory Glasgow finishing second with a 74, and Rylan with a 75.
In Division 2, it looked like Jeremy Schaefer would run away with the win, finishing the front 9 at just 2 over par. A couple of bogies leveled the playing field, but was quickly diminished by an eagle on hole 16. Fighting till the very end, Alex Lederer had an incredible back 9, with 4 birdies in a row, another birdie on 16, to finish the round with a 75 and best Jeremy by 1 stroke. Congrats Alex on another win!
In Division 3 we had a tightly packed leaderboard. With over 35 players, the competition was going to be intense. Alan Strausbaugh led the pack through 9 holes, but newcomers Will Grimmett and Chris Jenkins stayed consistent and both had solid back nines. But with 3 birdies in the last 9 holes, Will was able to secure his first win on APT!
Division 4 saw lots of movement throughout the day and some career low rounds. Coming into the final holes it was anyone’s game with John Bilek, Winston Lewis and Sheckey Hart all at the top of the leaderboard. John was able to fire off a couple of great birdies on holes 11 and 16, securing the win!
With 17 players in Division 5, it was anyone’s guess as to who would take the crown in our Spring opener. Coming out strong was Aaron Eaton, Brian Canady, Scott Harrick and TJ Bowers. Aaron continued his consistent play on the back nine, suffering just one double bogey on the final hole to claim his first win in Division 5!
