MILE HIGH DENVER CHAPTER OF THE AMATEUR PLAYERS TOUR

Heritage Eagle Bend Golf Club Tournament Recap-June 28, 2025

A beautiful sunny and hot day welcomed 55 Amateur Players Tour members and guests to Heritage Eagle Bend Golf Club.  Members from St. Louis, Myrtle Beach and the Utah APT Chapters enjoyed playing at Denver’s mile high altitude. The hilly course with very fast, undulating greens designed by Arthur Hills proved to be a very good test for the players.

Numerous ties and playoffs (physical and scorecard) highlighted the afternoon awards and scoring.  This event was an ELEVATED event for the Denver Chapter, the first time that double payouts and double points were awarded to the winners in Denver.  The event was very successful, and the players love the challenging course and greens.

DIVISION 1: It appeared that a three-way tie may play itself out with ~ 5 holes remaining for the D1 players.  Former APT winner Trevor Glen, and D1 rival Bryan Rusin who has placed high in previous tournaments were tied with first time guest player Omeed Azmoudeh coming down the stretch.  By the 18th hole, the winner of the division was down to Glen and Rusin with the latter needing to gain one shot to tie with Glen for the tournament.  Both players had big drives into the end of the lower fairway.  Rusin’s approach shot missed the green to the left, while Glen had a fantastic shot onto the very long green with the pin in the back. Bryan had a good chip about 8 feet past the pin as Trevor Glen (37-36 =77) followed up with his ~20-foot putt for birdie going about 1 foot past the hole.  Glen made the par putt to take away Rusin’s (36-39 = 75) chance of getting into a tie.  This twosome has developed a very good relationship in their competitions against each other.  Rusin vowed to continue to give Glen a run for his money in future tournaments and pick up a win soon.  Congratulations to Trevor Glen for his second Division 1 win in the Denver Chapter tournaments.

DIVISION 2: In this highly tightly competitive division, former APT winners Greg Otto and Hendrik Orlowski ended the day in a tie for 1st place.   Both players ended the day by shooting 77 as they headed to the first tee for a sudden death playoff.  Otto (40-37 = 77) appeared to have the advantage on the first playoff hole as his drive was up the right side of the fairway and his approach was on the green, while Orlowski’s drive went through the fairway and into the very long, knee high grass right of the cart path.  However, Orlowski (39-38 = 77) drained an ~35’ putt to save a bogey 5, while Otto barely missed his comeback putt for par. The fortunes were turned on the second hole as Otto’s approach shot from the rough found the bunker guarding the right side of the green, while Orlowski’s approach shot from the rough on top of the hill found the green.  Orlowski managed a bogey 5 to secure the win.  Recently promoted to Division 2 player, Drew Lopez held the lead for a while, but finished a couple stokes behind shooting 39-40 = 79 to win the 3rd Place money.

DIVISION 3: Division 3 also was a closely contested Division at Heritage Eagle Bend.  Aaron Skiles (multi-winner on the APT) battled Connor Rogers and Mike Foxhoven for the D3 Trophy and prize money.  Skiles’ more consistent play proved to be the best round as he shot a round of 84 (43-41).  Rogers and Foxhoven were neck and neck the entire round with both shooting 86 (40-46 for both) for a tie for 2nd Place Prize money.  This sets up some fantastic competition for the second half of the 2025 Season for D3 and playing for the Mile High Denver Chapter Player of the Year Award.

DIVISION 4: A final tie between Denver Chapter Steve Brown and St. Louis Chapter member Mike Moynihan completed the D4 competition with scores of 90.  Mike faced the pressure of a playoff plus the deadline of having to get to the airport on time for his flight back home to St. Louis.  Brown’s drive found the right side of the fairway giving him a shorter second shot onto the green.  Moynihan’s drive found the right rough barely but was thick enough to cause him to miss his approach shot to the left into the green side bunker.  Steve nearly made his birdie putt and had a tap-in for his par 4 and the winner of the 1st place trophy.

DIVISION 5: Division 5 had a strong field and very keen competition as well.  The competition narrowed itself down into 4 players between Jami VonKaenel, Donna Jarock, Brandon Jansson and Andrew Wright.  At the end of the day, the ladies won out overall with Jami carding a consistent 92 (45-47) for the 1st Place Trophy (and her being a multi-winner) and prize money. Donna and Brandon finished in a 2nd place tie with scores of 96 and identical nines (45-51).  Competition is heating up in this Division as Jami announced she cannot play in the next tournament.  This announcement prompted Jansson to say, “If Jami is NOT playing, I am definitely signing up to play!”  Gotta love it!

OPEN NET: Again, the theme for Heritage Eagle Bend was to “end up in a tie,” continued for Open Net.  D1 player Trevor Glen tied with D2 player Drew Lopez for first place.  Both ended up with Even Par 72 net with Trevor winning the trophy via a scorecard playoff.  Congratulations to both players.

SENIOR NET: Not to sound like a broken record, but Senior Net continued the “tie” theme of the tournament.  Greg Otto and Mike Foxhoven tied for 1st place with +2 over par 74s.  Once again, the USGA scorecard playoff determined Greg Otto the winner of the trophy.  Both players will split the Senior Net winnings.

FOLDS OF HONOR 50/50 RAFFLE: Scott Rowley was the winner of the 50/50 Raffle winning $130 with a contribution matching $130 going to Folds of Honor.

NEXT TOURNAMENT: The Mile High Denver Chapter ventures to the beautiful Marianna Butte golf course in Loveland, July 12.  This course is a favorite for northern Colorado and sits along the Big Thompson River right at the base of the Rocky Mountain foothills.  Register this week!

-The Funk Yard, Hoe Down Hill and the other fascinating attributes and character of RainDance.  -RainDance provides excellent player experience on the course and a unique experience with the décor, special items, and fun things off the course on the property.
