The Houston APT returned to Wildcat Golf Club for the second consecutive year, taking on the challenging Lakes Course. With tee times beginning at 11:00 AM, players braced for the heat. However, a distant thunderstorm brought cooler temperatures and a light breeze, making for an unexpectedly pleasant Saturday of golf.
Division 1: Jason Hawthorne ignited his round with a spectacular 20-foot eagle putt on the 3rd hole, followed by a birdie on the next hole. He made the turn at even par, tied with Marc Young, who posted a blemish-free front nine. A clutch birdie on 17 gave Jason the edge, and he secured the win with a solid 74 (+2).
Division 2: James Michalsky opened strong with a birdie on the first hole and cruised through the front nine at 35 (-1). Darien Duhon and Steve Christensen stayed within striking distance at 39 (+3). Steve surged ahead with back-to-back birdies on 15 and 16, clinching the victory with a 78 (+6).
Division 3: Charles Ackerman took control early with a birdie on the third hole and a front-nine 38 (+2). Alvin Miles trailed by three after a 41 (+5) but made a late push with a birdie on 17. Still, Charles held firm to win by one stroke, finishing at 84 (+12).
Division 4: Last tournament’s runner-up Kenneth Grant came out strong, carding a 41 (+5) on the front. Tyler Warren, recently promoted to Division 4, stayed close with a 42 (+6). With the largest field of the tournament, Kenneth posted an early clubhouse lead at 85 (+13). Visiting New England chapter member Bilal Jordon made a strong back-nine run but fell just short with an 86 (+14), giving Kenneth Grant the victory.
Division 5: Anthony Vespa held a narrow lead at the turn with a 50 (+14), just ahead of Jeff Henry at 51 (+15). Anthony sealed the deal with a clutch par on 18, finishing with a 98 (+26) to win by two strokes.
Senior Net: Steve Christensen won Senior Net with a 70(-2). Charles Ackerman took second with a 71(-1). Alvin Miles and Chris Ryan tied for third with a 73(+1).
