The Northern Colorado swing portion of the tour concluded at RainDance National for our 2.0 tournament.  The torrential rains that were present at the June tournament turned into extreme heat with the highs in the mid-90s. One player stated early in the week prior to the tournament that he was hoping for “More Dance than Rain!” The golf gods truly made that happen.  Longs Peak and Meeker Peak, Colorado’s “Twin Peaks,” were fully visible all day for the first hole drive as the target line.

NOTABLES: Trevor Glen led the field with 5 birdies at RainDance National playing from the D1 tees.  Gavin Monjaras followed with 3 birdies, while Tayte Andruss, Craig Lewis, and JT Thomson each scored 2 birdies.

DIVISION 1: Trevor Glen survived a few bad holes down the stretch to win D1 with a score of 76 (38-38). Mike Rosaasen went for the green on his second shot on hole #18, a Par 5. Unfortunately for Mike, his shot did not clear the arroyo in front of the 18th green. The arroyo is in the middle of the split fairways on this finishing hole.  Rosaasen finished with a score of 77 (37-40) and barely missed earning a tie and the win. This sets up even more fantastic competition in the future rounds in D1.

DIVISION 2: Greg Otto, multi-winner on the APT Denver Tour started his round with a fast and red-hot start by getting a birdie on hole number 1.  He stayed hot all day long and shot 34 (2 under) on the front 9 followed by shooting even par on the back 9 and won D2 with a total of 70. Hendrik Orlowski, also always a top finisher in D2, gave Otto some stiff competition shooting even par 72 (38-34).  Hendrik’s 2 under par score on the back nine closed the gap significantly to earn him 2nd place.  Gary Wayne took home some prize money with a very solid score of 76 (37-39). Dane Steube stepped up as a last-minute fill-in for an injured player and played very well shooting 38-39 = 77 and finished in 4th place.

DIVISION 3: Aaron Skiles, also a multi-winner on the Denver APT tour, self-admitted that he has not played well in recent tournaments.  That all ended quickly with a fantastic round and a score of 78 (39-39) for 1st place. Skiles felt great being back in the money in this highly competitive division.  Tim Elder traveled to the tournament from Wyoming and played very well shooting 81 (39-42) to win 2nd place prize money.  First time APT Denver player, John McDonald won 3rd place by shooting 42-40 for an 82 total. Ethan Bond finished in 4th place with a consistent and solid score of 84 (42-42).

DIVISION 4: This division finished with a tie for 1st place with Brandon Foster and Pete Lupfer both shooting 94. Unfortunately, the golf course was still very full and could not send our players to hole #1 so the division winner had to be determined with a scorecard playoff. First time player in D4 Brandon (49-45) won the trophy and split the prize money with Pete 47-47). Trent McQueen missed joining the winning tie by 1 stroke shooting 95 (49-46).

DIVISION 5: It appeared like a tie for D5 was also in the works coming down the stretch in the final holes. Ryan Shephard, an improving D5 player starting in his 4th APT Denver tournament held on to his lead on the 18th hole and finished with a score of 90 (41-49).  Ryan had a fantastic score on the front 9 at RainDance. Payton Luebe and Taylor Fortini gave Shephard all the competition he wanted with Luebe ending up in second place by 1 stroke scoring 91 (46-45). Taylor had an amazing 39 on the front nine but lost his lead and touch on the back nine ending up in 3rd place with a 92 (39-53) to place 3rd.

OPEN NET: 21 players entered the competition to be the Open Net Champion at RainDance National. Ties were the name of the game today as Hendrik Orlowski and Aaron Skiles tied for 1st place with 3 under par scores of 69.  Orlowski (36-33) won the trophy in the scorecard playoff over Skiles (34-35).  Both players won ~$200 each for their efforts.  2nd place ended in a tie between Mike Rosaasen (34-37) and Dane Steube (35-36) with scores of 1 under par 71. Ethan Bond missed the Prize Money Line by 1 stroke ending with an even par 72.

SENIOR NET: Greg Otto’s 2 under par Gross Score was too much for everyone playing for the Senior Net Championship.  Greg’s net score of 4 under par (68) won him the trophy and almost $200.  John McDonald finished with a net 73 (+1) to win 2nd place followed by Pete Lupfer finishing in 3rd place for Senior Net.

FOLDS OF HONOR 50/50 RAFFLE: Cole Mietzner was the winner of the 50/50 Raffle winning $85 with a contribution matching $85 going to Folds of Honor.
