Amateur Players Tour of Florida – Southwest Tournament Recap 

IMG Academy Golf Club – September 6, 2025 

It was a sunny, hot Florida day at IMG Academy Golf Club in Bradenton on September 6, and we had a perfect day for our 2025 season finals!  While the first hole provided a lot of problems for many players, we crowned our finals and Player of the Year champions!  Highlights of the day included: 

• Division 1: Matt Ross jumped out to a one-shot lead over Robert Greene on the front nine, with Gae Basiletti and Dan Madsen just a few shots back.  Basiletti and Greene both improved to one-over 37s, but Ross would better both of them with a -1 35 on the back and a 3-shot victory!  Ross’s win was not enough to vault him to the top of D1 for the POY, and Gage Basiletti took home that hardware.   

• Division 2: Daren Green played a steady front nine at +1 and took a healthy 4-hot lead to the back nine. Rocky was able to gain one-shot on Green on the back with a +1 37, but in the end, Green won the finals going away.   In addition to the finals win, Green also took home the D2 Player of the Year honors.   

• Division 3: This one was a tight race all the way.  On the front nine, newcomer, David Pearson took a one-shot lead over Marcus Clifford and Rick Kaczmarczyk, with several others just a few shots back.  Clifford would better his score on the front nine while all the contenders went in the other direction allowing Clifford to notch his first win. Our D3 Player of the Year was Chris Scott who was unable to play in the finals and had a season where he had several wins and got promoted to D2.  A great season for the D3 POY!   

• Division 4: As was the case for most of the season, this group provided a lot of excitement and drama.  John Moore jumped out to a one-shot lead over Dan Wojcik and 2 over Josh Hull and Manuel Collins.  On the back, Josh Hull would shoot a 42 and catch John Moore for the tie.  In the playoff, they both parred the first hole, and Moore would par the second hole for the win!  In the Player of the Year race, with the win, John Moore took home those honors as well.   

• Division 5: Rick Gill took a two-shot lead over Greg Gastfield, Quinton Allen, and Rusty Lingenfelter.  On the back, Gastfield would improve 2 strokes and pass Rick Gill for the win.  With his win in the finals, he would make the Player of the Year race a close one, but he could not catch Dave Densieski who took home that award this season.   

• Senior Net: We had another good turnout on this game with Daren Green leading after the front-nine firing a -1 35, but Dan Wojcik was just 1 behind with an even par, and John Moore and Frank Gomes at +2.  Green would shoot even on the back, but Wojcik would turn it around and shoot -1 and they tied for first.  Taking third with a +3 total was John Moore!  For Player of the Year, Daren Green came from behind on Andy Halek and took home the award!   

A huge thank you goes out to Steve Strausbaugh and the entire staff at IMG Academy Golf Club for having the course in such excellent condition for our Finals.  Not only was the course in great shape, but the views from the clubhouse after the round were spectacular!
