MILE HIGH DENVER CHAPTER OF THE AMATEUR PLAYERS TOUR

Denver 2026 Season Opener Tournament at City Park Golf Course Recap-October 4, 2025

Excitement was clearly in the air for the 2026 Season Opener at City Park as players were touting new handicaps, new Divisions and another fantastic season of golf challenges. Players were met with unseasonable high temperatures nearing 80 degrees and mostly clear blue skies. An approaching cold front into the Mile High City was forecast and conditions were breezy to begin the round and increased to be windy in the afternoon. The warm and windy conditions provided a mixed blessing for the field.

NOTABLES: The opening tournament field for the 2026 Season included 6 of 7 winners of the Divisional Player of the Year Awards from the 2025 Season. The statement was made by all these players that they are attempting to win back-to-back Denver POY recognition.

The Eagle streak for a Denver tournament continues as Division 1 Player Trevor Glen scored an eagle 3 on the Par 5, 13th hole. Circumstances and conditions may have aided Trevor as his drive on the 472-yard hole found the green side bunker. Trevor blasted out of the sand, made his putt and carded the eagle.

Birdies were plentiful on the windy day at City Park. In addition to Glen’s eagle, he also notched 4 birdies on his scorecard. Aaron Skiles also scored 4 birdies (3 in a row on 15, 16 and 17). Hendrik Orlowski made 3 birdies on the day while Jack Wallin, Kevin Causey, Evan Wilking, and Brandon Foster all had 2 birdies each. ~14 other players also enjoyed scoring 1 birdie for the day.

DIVISION 1: Division 1 had a strong field for the tournament with the top 2025 players in the first foursome of the day. Trevor Glen, D1 Denver 2025 POY, came out strong in the 2026 season to win the City Park Tournament with a score of 69 (-1). Trevor had a nice cushion playing the last few holes and D1 had a 3-way tie for 2nd Place. First time APT player Jack Wallin, Greg Otto and Mike Synek all tied for 2nd place with a total of 77.

DIVISION 2: Division 2 also had a strong field competing for the trophy and 1st Place money. Hendrik Orlowski, D2 Denver 2025 Player of the Year, came on strong down the stretch to win D2 at City Park. Orlowski shot 79 and won by 1 stroke over another 3-way tie for 2nd Place. With scores of 80, Matt Tokunaga, visiting from the Las Vegas Chapter of the APT, Paul Hueber, and Drew Lopez were the players that tied.

DIVISION 3: Not to be outdone by Glen and Orlowski, 2025 Denver Player of the Year in Division 3, Aaron Skiles shot a nice score of 77 to win the City Park tournament. As noted above, Skiles made an impressive charge at the end by scoring birdies on holes 15, 16 and 17 to take home the trophy and 1st Place prize money. Robert Webb shot a solid 79 to win 2nd Place and Alex Tieman was a close third by shooting 80.

DIVISION 4: Pete Lupfer shot a particularly good D4 score of 84 to win the Division at City Park. Lupfer parred the 18th hole to avoid a sudden death playoff. 2025 Division 4 Player of the Year, Steve Brown, was hoping for a playoff and ended winning 2nd Place with a score of 85. Russell Finch and Peter Deem finished tied for 3rd Place with scores of 86, 1 stroke out of the money.

DIVISION 5: This fun packed division did not have the normal large field, but the players provided a remarkably close competitive tournament! Fernando Rico was able to win the Division with a score of 93 and took home 1st Place money and the trophy. Ryan Shephard is always competitive in D5 and finished 1 stroke back with a 94 for 2nd Place. Michael Elder finished in 3rd Place with a score of 95.

MID-AM NET: 19 players competed to become the first winner of the newly named Mid-Am Net competition. As noted, Aaron Skiles birdied 15, 16, and 17 to come from behind and claim the trophy and 1st Place money in this competition. Skiles ended with a net score of 69 (-1) to narrowly beat Robert Webb and Steve Brown who both ended with scores of even par 70. Las Vegas member, Matt Tokunaga finished in 4th Place.

SENIOR NET: This Division came down to the 18th hole to determine the winner of the 1st Place prize money and trophy. Peter Deem and Pete Lupfer both parred #18, but Lupfer scored a net birdie to win 1st Place in Senior Net with a final net score of even par 70. Deem finished with a net 71 to win 2nd Place money. Tim Bennett was a close third with a net score of 72. Matt Hall, visiting from the St. Louis Chapter of the APT came in 4th place.

FOLDS OF HONOR 50/50 RAFFLE: Alex Tieman was the winner of the 50/50 Raffle winning $92 with a contribution of $93 going to Folds of Honor.
