The Charleston Amateur Players Tour made its way to Savannah, GA this past weekend, taking on the scenic yet demanding layout at Crosswinds Golf Club.

Known for its open, parkland-style design, Crosswinds offers a rare blend of playability and challenge, welcoming golfers without the confinement of homes along the course. The par-72 course features a unique setup with five par 5s and five par 3s, creating a dynamic round that tests every aspect of a player’s game.

Undulating Tifeagle greens, rolling Bermuda fairways, and strategically placed bunkers are complemented by streams, ponds, and marshland that not only framed each hole beautifully, but demanded precision throughout the round.

The Charleston Amateur Players Tour travels the Lowcountry of South Carolina, along with portions of Georgia, offering golfers of all skill levels a chance to compete in one of five different divisions. The tour also has mid-am and senior net divisions each tournament, along with an optional cash skins game. Each tournament, division winners are awarded cash and VISA gift card prizes as the tour strives to create a world class golfing experience.

Here’s a breakdown of the results from Saturday’s tournament by division:

Division 2 – John Tompkins used two birdies and an eagle to secure the victory in Division 2 on Saturday with a round of 76, clearing the field by just one stroke. Tompkins kickstarted his round with an eagle on the par-five ninth hole as he shot two-over par 38 on the front nine. Tompkins made two birdies on the back nine as he also shot 38 on the closing stretch.

Weston Brown and Jeremy Key tied for second place with rounds of 77. Brown finished with three birdies on the day, including two in a row to start the back nine. Key attempted to make a back-nine charge, playing the closing holes in even par with two birdies.

A.J. Lee and Hank Stolz finished tied for fourth place with rounds of 82. Lee finished with three birdies, taking advantage of two of the back nine par fives to shoot 39 on the back. Stolz made two birdies on the day, the last of which came on the par-four 13th hole.

Division 3 – Jeffrey Johnston jumped out to a lead on the front nine and had just enough on the back nine to win Division 3 with a round of 82. Johnston shot 38 on the front nine, highlighted by a pair of birdies on the sixth and seventh holes.

Misael Moreno finished runner-up with a round of 83, just one stroke behind Johnston. Moreno’s steady round included nine pars, four of which came in a five-hole stretch on the back nine as he climbed the leaderboard.

Scott Johnson and Larry Penfield tied for third place with rounds of 86. Johnson’s highlight of the round came on the par-four fourth hole as he made birdie. Penfield opened the back nine with two birdies in a row on the 10th and 11th holes.

Clay Marsh and John Benton rounded out the top five in the division with rounds of 87 in a tie for fifth place. Marsh led the division with three birdies, all of which came on the front nine as he shot 39 on the opening stretch. Benton made birdie on the par-five 12th hole as he played the first four holes of the back nine in one-under par.

Division 4 – Andy Dumont was the class of the field in Division 4 on Saturday, carding a round of 87 to win by two strokes.
