Tournament Champions
Wichita APT brought the Amateur skills to a Wichita favorite in Auburn Hills! Course is in good shape and the weather was perfect for the first half of the day and as the wind picked up, the back 9 proved to be a little bit of a challenge for some of the front runners.
D1 – Kipp Jones shot solid 38 on the front and locked in a CTP on the short #7. That was followed by a 40 on the back with a birdie on 16. Kipp was able to hold off Trent Moeckel who finished with an 80. Trent carded 4 birdies and finished on 18 with an eagle.
D2 – Tristen Dagenais went 44 on the front and his birdie on what could be the toughest hole in Wichita, the par 5 #3, helped offset a tough 4-hole stretch and then he locked in and shot 43 on the back 9 to secure his win. Jason Dodd had a solid 39 on the front was leading majority of the day, but as the wind picked up and the course became a little tougher, Jason ended up giving up the lead and ended day with 90 to finish 2nd place.
D3 – Our biggest field for the day showed a lot of back and forth and new to D3 Braydon Lund shot 41 on the front! With some struggles on the back 9 he was able to finish with 88 (+16) on the day. Johnny Governski finished 93 (+21), Ricky Muniz 94 (+22) followed by Brad Johnson, Rodney Michael and Chencho Arceo all with +23 showed how tight this field was.
D4 – Playoff, we were going to talk about a playoff! Unfortunately, we did not get to see a playoff between our two top guys in D4. Jeff Rader and Kelly Mcdowell both shot 91 (+21). Newly promoted Kelly Mcdowell ended up with the W and his 3rd in as many tournaments. Kelly carded back to back birdies on 15 & 16 to secure his comeback.
D5 – Billy Yeager playing in his first APT tournament of the year cards a 92 (+20) on the day! Wild Bill was very consistent on the front 9 and th back 9 got a little squirrelly but was able to hold off another APT Rookie, James Kunkel who shot 93 (+21) on the day. Small world these guys used to work together and have known each other for a long time and reuniting on the golf course. Love how this game works.
