Sunbrook Scramble 2-Seven finds Season’s Greetings on Rocky Mountain Chapter
The Winter Southern Swing, the wrap-around portion of the APT Rocky Mountain 2022 season teed off with their first event at Sunbrook GC on Saturday, December 11th.
Lots of fun and smiles warmed up the competitive atmosphere as 16 two-man teams split up into two divisions and shot their way around 27 holes, scramble-style. The players experienced all three nine-hole rotations of The Pointe, Woodbridge, and the Black Rock as they teamed with an eye on points, points, and trophies.
In the Reindeer Division, we had first-time champions on Tour, in Dennis McGraw and Equator Pohahau (94) hoisting the trophies after shooting a net 14 under par. McGraw and Pohahau take home $220 in APT Visa Card winnings and 450 points, vaulting them to the top of the Rocky Mountain season standings. Just one stroke back were friends Bob Woitalla and Mike Membrilla (95), who win $100 for their runner-up finish.
In the Snowman Division, the father-son duo of Blake & Matt Stevenson (98) held their foot on the gas pedal all day en-route to a five shot victory. They also are winners of the $220 first place prize (APT Visa Card). Pals Jeremy Conetah and Terry Shaw (103) took 2nd place honors, nipping Thurman Hornbuckle and Braden Larsen by a single stroke for the $100 APT Visa Card.
The first leg of the Winter Southern Swing was presented by GTech Apparel, the newest national partner of the APT. In a fun side competition, teams played two balls from 10 yards, both a pitch and putt, on both balls in an attempt to get CTP. 3 teams were able to hole BOTH balls; with Jeff Clifford/John Gordon, Bob Woitalla/Mike Membrilla, and Shawn Johnson/Mark Miller all accomplishing the feat. The tiebreaker went to the action on the course, with Johnson & Miller winning with a NET birdie on the first hole of The Pointe 9. For their victory, both players won a hot prize; an APT adorned GTech Handwarmer, which will come in handy for those colder golf rounds and cold season leisure activities in Utah!
Closest to the Pin winners were Easton Rentmeister (TP3), Matt Stevenson (TP9), Dillon Patterson (WB4), Shawn Larsen (WB8), John Gordon (BR3), and Equator Pohahau (BR8). There were just 5 Super Skins over the 27 holes with a single skin going to each of Stevenson/Stevenson, Pohahau/McGraw, Gordon/Clifford, Eveland/Eveland, and Hornbuckle/Larsen.
Congratulations to all of our players on a great event to start up the Winter Southern Swing! Our next event will be an individual stroke play, 18-hole competition at Green Spring GC on Friday, January 14th, 2022.
