West Virginia Open Results

The fall finale of the West Virginia Tour took place on Sunday December 12th at the Lewisburg Elks. It was a cold, windy day with temperatures in the low 40’s, but the course was in great shape and issued up some low scores.  

Division 1: Defending tour champion Jerod Ewing made his 2022 debut and picked up where he left off in September with another victory. During the summer, Colten Nickell captured the victory at Lewisburg with an even par round. Today, he and Jerod battled neck and neck throughout most of the day until an untimely triple bogey on the 15th hole took Colten out of contention. Jerod had 5 birdies on the day to take home his first trophy of the season by 3 shots. Corey Justice came home third.  

Division 2: Lindy Sullivan and Tyler Hetzer have battled in every fall event so far, with Tyler coming out on top each time. Today’s battle came down to the wire, with Lindy emerging victorious by 1 shot when the scores were tallied. Tyler’s double bogey on 16 was the deciding factor to Lindy taking his first win of the 2022 season in a great battle all day between the two.  

Division 3: Dave Shepperd had himself a round at Lewisburg on Sunday! 3 straight birdies and a   -1 under front 9 helped Dave coast to a 7 shot lead over guest player from Martinsburg Josh Gwinn. Dave started with a bogey on the 1st hole and then found his swing and was masterful with his irons, leaving himself close tap in putts for birdies or pars. Dave played a mistake free round and was truly an excellent performance. Defending champion Matt Robinson came home 5th on the day.  

Division 4: New West Virginia member Michael Heitz made the trip down to Lewisburg to compete in his first event of the season on Sunday going head to head with the winner of the previous event at Hidden Cove a few weeks prior, Justin Keaton. Justin started off strong and was able to hang on to the back 9 defeating Michael by 6 shots. Michael played consistent golf through stretches of the round and could contend for the D4 championship at seasons end.  

Division 5: Defending tour champion Kevin Long made his 2022 debut and just like Jerod, he picked right back up where he left off in September with another victory. Kevin had a great round of +12 which was good enough to win Division 4, and win by 8 shots over 2nd place and current D5 points leader Patrick McNeely. Tour newcomer Marshall Fortner battled early, but the back 9 at Lewisburg takes no prisoners and Marshall fell back from the leader.  

Congratulations to all of our winners this past Sunday at Lewisburg, and throughout our fall series. We hope everyone has a Happy Holidays, including, but not limited to Christmas, New Years, Valentine’s, and St. Patrick’s Day.
