The Amateur Players Tour kicked off the month of February on the Mississippi Gulf Coast at The Preserve Golf Club in Vancleave, MS, located just outside of Biloxi, MS.  84 players teed it up at a beautiful golf course, rated in the very top courses you can play on the Gulf Coast every year.  Players would face challenging fast greens and a fun layout that would require everyone to think around the golf course.  The weather was absolutely perfect – and players would enjoy a golf course that was in great shape for the APT Gulf Coast Classic.

In Division 1, Jordan Jones (Memphis) and Eric King (Kentucky) would separate themselves from the back and found themselves battling in a match-play like situation for the title.  The pivotal moment came on the 14th hole, where Jones made a difficult par while King faltered to take the lead for good.  Jones’ 2-day total of +9 was good enough for a 2-shot win on the difficult layout, while former GlobalGolf.com National Player of the Year Eric King finished in solo 2nd at +11 and Ed McDugle (Memphis) finished in solo 3rd at +13.

In Division 2, Bill Stuart (St. Louis) and Matthew Bankston (Florida Gulf Coast) were battling all day, while Johnny Pierce (Tennessee East) was trailing from behind, but having the hottest round on the golf course.  When all the dust settled, Pierce finished off his great round, shooting even par to come from behind and earn a 2-shot victory at +14.  Bankston finished in solo 2nd at +16, while Stuart finished in 3rd at +17.  Josh DeJarnette (St. Louis) and Chris Handy (Las Vegas) rounded out the top-5 at +18.

In Division 3, 36 holes would not be enough to decide a champion as Jason Dale (East Tennessee) and Stu Kambury (Dallas/Fort Worth) were tied at +29.  The playoff went to three holes as each player exchanged clutch shots to extend the playoff on the first 2 holes.  On the third playoff hole, Jason Dale sunk a clutch long putt to put the pressure on Stu KamburyKambury hit a good putt, but it narrowly slid by the hole giving Jason Dale his first trip to the winners circle at an APT National Major.  Will Kamp (Southern California) and Alex Richardson (Nashville) finished in a tie for 3rd at +33 while Chad West (Iowa Tri-State) and Dalton Silas (Birmingham) rounded out the top-5 at +34.

In Division 4, Terry Hodge (Birmingham) bested a very competitive field, earning a 1-shot victory at +40 where 6 players were within 3 of the lead.  Andy Repetto (New Jersey/Philadelphia) and Louis Ralph (Memphis) tied for 2nd just one-shot off the pace at +41 while Andy Halek (Florida Southwest) and Martis Black (Birmingham) finished in a tie for 4th place at +42.  Don Hamblett (Birmingham) finished in solo 6th place at +43.

In Division 5, the final group would be quite a battle as Cody Quattlebaum (Georgia Central), David McDow (Nashville) and John Lenz (Central Illinois) all came in separated by less than 2 shots.  In the end, John Lenz would pull away late despite a late charge from David McDow to earn his first major victory on the APT at +47.  McDow would finish in solo 2nd at +48, while Quattlebaum had a solid finish in his first ever major in solo 3rd at +49.  Jeff Brodsky (New Jersey/Philadelphia) rounded out the top 4 at +51.

In the Open Net competition, Jordan Jones (Memphis) cruised to victory at 1-over par, besting the rest of the field by 8 strokes.  Chris Brown (Florida Gulf Coast) finished in solo 2nd at +9, while Nicholas Crouse (Iowa Tri-State) finished in 3rd place at +11.

In the Senior Net competition, Bill Stuart (St. Louis) bested the field by 5 shots, shooting 2-under par net on Sunday to finish with a 2-day total of +3.  2nd place honors went to Johnny Pierce (East Tennessee), Chris Handy (Las Vegas) and Andy Halek (Florida Southwest) who finished at +8.  Rounding out the top-5 and the money was Chris Denz (Virginia Capital), Ed McDugle (Memphis) and Don Hamblett (Birmingham) at +9.
