Echard Returns to Form, Iriarte Captures First Major at Bayonet

The Amateur Players Tour headed to the Monterey Peninsula for the APT Pacific Coast Classic at Bayonet Golf Course, a venue long regarded as one of the premier tests of golf on the West Coast. With a championship pedigree that includes hosting the PGA Professional National Championship along with multiple high-level qualifiers, Bayonet demands precision off the tee and discipline into its firm, protected greens. Players were greeted with picture-perfect conditions to start the weekend, as temperatures reached 80 degrees and sunny skies on Saturday, before the course showed its coastal teeth with cooler 65-degree temperatures and classic Monterey weather rolling in for the final round.

In Division 1, Andrew Echard (Utah) returned to the winner’s circle in dominant fashion, reinforcing his status as the reigning Worldwide Golf National Player of the Year. Echard opened with a steady 73 in Round 1 before navigating tougher conditions on Sunday with an 80 to finish at +9. He held off Curt Bressner (Phoenix), who closed with rounds of 79-79 to finish at +14, while Nick Woo (Northern California) secured third at +18. Echard’s ability to stay composed while others struggled down the stretch proved to be the difference.

Division 2 delivered one of the tightest finishes of the championship, as Mark Iriarte (Southern California) captured his first major victory on the APT. Iriarte positioned himself early with an opening-round 81 and followed it up with an 84 to finish at +21. Scott Joens (Utah) applied pressure late with a strong closing round to finish just one shot back at +22, while Shawn Larsen (Utah) and Vinny O’Brien (Southern California) both earned podium finishes at +23. With multiple players within striking distance, Iriarte held firm down the stretch to secure the milestone win.

In Division 3, Jayson Huett (Southern California) delivered a breakout performance to separate himself from the field. Huett posted consistent rounds of 81-81 to finish at +18, comfortably ahead of Pat Ryan (Myrtle Beach), who finished second at +27. Bill Windsor (Augusta) and Willy Syrquin (Dallas/Fort Worth) rounded out the money positions at +30, as Huett’s steady play not only earned him the win but also secured his promotion to Division 2.

Division 4 saw John Moyle (Portland) control the division from start to finish, opening with an 89 and closing with a 91 to finish at +36. He held off Brad Forsyth (Southern California), who finished just two shots back at +38, while Royce Jiang (Southern California) and Vick Lopez (Southern California) shared third at +44 to round out the purse finishers in a tightly contested group behind the leader.

In Division 5, Danny Acosta (Las Vegas) delivered a steady two-round performance of 90-95 to finish at +41 and secure the victory. He maintained a comfortable margin over Eddy Moore (Southern California), who finished second at +52, while Todd Fowles (Utah) earned third at +59. Acosta’s consistency across both rounds proved to be the difference in separating from the field.

The net divisions provided their own competitive storylines, with Cassidy Salvador (Central Pennsylvania) claiming the Mid-Am Net title at +7. He was followed by Wes Hohman (Phoenix) and Willy Syrquin (Dallas/Fort Worth), who both finished at +8 to round out the money positions. In the Senior Net division, Danny Acosta (Las Vegas) added to his strong week with a victory at -1, finishing ahead of Bill Windsor (Augusta) at even par and Pat Ryan (Myrtle Beach) at +5.

From top to bottom, Bayonet once again proved why it remains a staple on the APT National schedule — a course that rewards execution and exposes any lapse in focus. The APT thanks the staff at Bayonet and Black Horse for hosting a first-class championship and congratulates all of this week’s winners on their performances.
