The Battle @ Long Bay - "The House that Jack Built" was held on Saturday March 5 at Long Bay Golf Cub in Longs, SC. There were 46 participants to start the day. The weather perfect and Long Bay was in amazing shape. Corey and all the staff were top notch. I highly recommend getting out there to play for sure.
Division 1 had 10 players fighting for the crown and it was a battle that ended up going to 3 hole playoff between Will Morgan from the Carolina Triad Tour and McCabe Reim, one of our own. Will played as he normally does and made the turn at -2 after holing out a bunker shot on the Par 5, 7th for an eagle. He came to the 18th with a 2 shot lead but finished with a double and ended up +2 (74) for his round. Will had to sit in the club house to see what McCabe would do on his last few holes. McCabe came to 18 needing to make a par to force a playoff and he was able to do so. They headed to #1 for the playoff and Will was able to birdie the 3rd hole to capture the win. This was McCabe's second playoff in a row. He is ready to win for sure. Will took the trophy and the $140 visa gift card and McCabe received a $60 vgc. Will's eagle won him the only SUPER Skin for the day and that was worth $370. John-Paul Hansen from Pinehurst and Dan Sanders from Johnson City, TN finished tied for 3rd.
Division 2 had 12 players competing for crown and also had to go to a playoff. The top 6 finished within 5 shots of each other. Frank Censullo playing in his first event of the 2022 season held the lead for most of the day. He made the turn at +2 and held a 1 shot lead over Travis Warluft from the Upstate Chapter. Frank's led stretched to 3 shots after the par 3, #13 but after Travis made a birdie on the par 5, 15 they were all square. Travis finished bogey, bogey for a +7 (79). He had to wait around to see what Frank would do on #18. Frank slipped and made a double to finish tied with Travis. This is the second time that these 2 have had to go to a playoff. It happened last season with Frank winning then. Travis rolled in a birdie on the first playoff hole to capture his first win of the 2022 season. With the win he he received the $160 visa gift card and hardware. Frank received the $80 vgc for being runner-up. Not a bad day for his first event of the season. He won a flight skin ($20) and a CTP ($46). Jimmy Starrett, Don Sheads and Victor Rivera finished tied for 3rd at +8 (80).
Division 3 was won by Chris Minar from NMB ended up running away from everyone else in Div. 3. Chris fired a +4 on his outward 9 to lead by 2 over Larry Smothers. He never really looked back and finished at +12 (84). Larry Smothers was runner-up (90) and Dodd Daniel finished 3rd at (92) ,. With the win Chris received $100 visa gift card and trophy
Division 4 had 12 players competing for the title. Danny Hause from NMB continued his hot streak and captured his 2nd win in a row. He carded his best round in 2 seasons on the tour (79). Brandon Long (Hartsville) also carded his best round of the season (85) took runner-up. Brian Raymond (Longs) finished 3rd (86) while Cooter Douglas (89) rounded out the top 4. Danny received $160 visa gift card and trophy for his win. Brandon received a $80 vgc.
Division 5 had 8 players and was a battle to the end plus some. Greg Dover from Myrtle Beach played his best since joining the tour this season. He finished the day with a 92. I have never seen a player so excited. I could tell he was very anxious waiting around. I told him he needed to hang around because he could end up in a playoff and as fate would have it he did. Ricky Compton finished with a 92 as well so they headed out to our 3rd playoff of the day. Ricky ended up winning the playoff. For the win Ricky received a $140 visa gift card with Greg receiving a $40 vgc. Bobby Peyton (95) took 3rd and Steven Reeves (97) finished 4th.
