Cherokee Valley Golf Club in Olive Branch, MS welcomed the Memphis/Mid-South APT on Saturday, April 9, 2022 with decent weather and some wind. The course was in fantastic shape with the zoysia fairways and smooth greens.
Division 1 saw another repeat winner as Ed McDugle (E, 72) held off a late surge from chapter owner Russell Cook (+3, 75) and Jordan Jones (+3, 75). McDugle used 3 front 9 birdies to build a lead that proved too much for Cook and Jones to overcome.
Division 2 saw long time Memphis amateur member Paul Luker come in with a +3, 75 to take home the win over new 2022 member Tyler Madlom (+7, 79). Luker used a strong start to his back nine going birdie, par, par, birdie to stretch his lead to an unsurmountable distance. Russ Brasel came in third with a +8, 80.
Division 3 saw our only playoff of the day as John Gathings (+12, 84) and Turner Holland (+12, 84) posted matching scores. Gathings made birdie on the par 5 first hole in the playoff to take the win. Kenneth Smith and Roger Leake tied for third at +13, 85s.
Division 4 saw a guest winner as Thomas Jones, II from our Nashville chapter came in and took the win with a +10, 82. Kevin brown finished 2nd at +11, 83.
Division 5 was won by tour favorite Denver Dulaney, as he posted a +21, 93. Long time friend of the tour Trey Horrell came in second with a +25, 97.
Cherokee met us with excellent course conditions, even thought mother nature gave us cool temps and challenging winds. We want to thank the staff at Cherokee for treating us incredibly well all day!
The Memphis/Mid-South APT is back in action in two weeks with our first two-day major of the year at Tunica National April 23rd and 24th. We look forward to seeing everyone there!
