The Amateur Players Tour – Atlanta and Birmingham chapters came together on a chamber of commerce day to for Border Battle at Cider Ridge Golf Course in Oxford, AL on Saturday April 30, 2022. Special thanks to the staff of Cider Ridge for the near perfect greens for our members and guests to play on. 50 players took the course to get their share of the $3455 total is prizes awarded.
Division 1 saw Birmingham chapter member Brandon Goude storm out to an early lead on the front side, however a shaky backside opened the door for tour newcomer Chase Romanstine who turned in a one over 37 on the back side to seal the victory and the $200 first place prize. Goude finished second to receive a $100 prize.
Division 2 was a tight battle all day between Birmingham’s Tom McMurdy and Memphis’ Tim Miller. In the end even a birdie by Miller on 18 wasn’t enough to top the steady play of McMurdy who carded a solid 83 for the victory and the $210 first place prize. Miller was rewarded with a second-place finish as well as a $120 prize for his efforts.
Division 3 was also a tight battle all day between three Birmingham members. Larry Kirkpatrick (84) took a two-shot lead into the back nine and was able to hold off both Phil Lambert (86) and Shane Parrott (86) for the win. Larry received a $200 prize for his efforts while Phil and Shane split second-place and each received $50 prizes.
In Division 4 Atlanta member Andy Maestas continued his hot streak of 3 wins in a row as he ran away and hid from the field with an impressive 86, for which he was rewarded with a $210 Visa gift card. Atlanta’s Ben Cook held on to second for the $120 Visa gift card.
In Division 5 eighteen holes wasn’t enough to decide a winner. Atlanta Co-Chapter owner Tim Harbin and Birmingham member Terry Hodge needed an extra hole to decide the grudge match that went back and forth all day. However, on the 19th hole Hodge was unable to match the par made by Harbin allowing him to secure the victory and the $180 Visa Gift Card. Hodge received a $60 prize for the day.
Next up on the Atlanta schedule is Bentwater Golf Club in Acworth, GA on May 7th, while Birmingham will enjoy a couple of weeks off before returning to action for their first 2-day event of the year at Burningtree Country Club in Decatur, AL on May 21st and 22nd. Thank you to all the players and staff of the Atlanta and Birmingham Chapters for another great event.
