The Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Amateur Players Tour competed at the brand new re-design of Timpanogos GC (formerly East Bay GC) this past weekend over 3 rounds in the Timpanogos 45. With a Championship Course featuring water on fourteen of the holes, shot making was at a premium to determine our division champions. The opening round on Friday afternoon saw several players stake themselves to a lead over the first eighteen holes. In the evening, the players took the lighted 9-hole Pasture Course, a Par 3 challenge with diabolical pins testing our players patience as well as their short game. The field tightened a bit heading into the final round on Saturday morning back on the Championship Course for the last eighteen holes.
In Division II, it was largely a two-man show for top honors as Jeff Clifford (191) and Tyler Moore (185) battled all weekend long. Clifford took a 3 shot lead into the final round, but Moore blistered the front 9 with 3 birdies and made the final turn with a three shot lead. Moore would tack on an additional 3 birdies on the back side and lay claim to the Timpanogos 45 Rail Trophy. The shot of the weekend in the division however was David Collins making his first ever ACE on the opening round – 2nd hole, hitting a 7-iron from 196 yards.
Dallin Wood (189) made his first start on the Amateur Players Tour and nipped Matias Tello (192) by three strokes to take home the tournament hardware in Division III. Shannon Lester (204) tied for the best gross score on the Pasture Course, a two-over 29, and parlayed that success into solo 3rd place, rounding out the money line.
Division IV saw Cory Hester (200) erase a one-shot deficit heading into the final round and claim his first APT Title. Joe Salisbury (204) was the leader after the second round, but would come up just short in his quest to win back to back tournaments. McKade Christensen (210) and Robert Hill (210) tied for third place.
Craig Peacock (228) is a first time winner on the APT, bettering Christopher Miles (232) by four shots. Peacock was able to put behind him a disappointing second round, sandwich by a very solid 90-93 on the Championship Course to be crowned the Division V gross winner. James Goodfellow (234) rounded out the money line in 3rd place. In the Division V NET Contest, Michael Waltz (153) was six shots better than Joshua Madden (159), as both players turned in their personal best finishes on tour.
Overall CTPs were won by David Collins, Peter Fong, Garrett Danielson, Dennis McGraw, Matias Tello, Kevin Curtis, Jim Dean, Bob Woitalla, and Dillon Patterson. Super Skins winners were Mark Amann, Aaron Bascomb, David Collins x2, Jeff Clifford, Brandon Ballif, Chad Davies, Brian Harris, Kevin Curtis, Peter Fong, and Matias Tello.
Next up, our Rocky Mountain crew is sending a contingent of competitors to the Golden State over Memorial Day Weekend to play in the APT Pacific Classic, a national major being hosted where the pros play, at PGAWest in LaQuinta, CA. The Rocky Mountain Chapter returns to local action with a single day tournament at Glenmoor GC on Sunday, June 13th.
