The Nashville chapter of the Amateur Players Tour held the first-ever Jason Gregory Memorial tournament at Franklin Bridge Golf Course in Franklin, Tennessee. Jason Gregory suddenly passed away in May of this year. He loved the game of golf and people loved being around him. He was our first ever member of the Nashville chapter. We lost him all too soon. Our plan is this will be the first of many years putting on a tournament in Jason’s memory. We thank Goodlark Pharmacy for sponsoring the event and all of the sixty-four players that made it special. As part of the tournament, all players were given a visor (Jason ALWAYS wore a visor whether playing or not!) and a Goodlark Pharmacy golf towel
In Division 1, it was a battle all day. After 9 holes, four players were tied at even par. Dakota Woodcock was steady all day and posted an even par inward nine to finish at even par 71 to claim second place. Newcomer Hunter Corbin posted a one-under back nine, highlighted by his 1st ever hole-in-one on the par 3 12th. Hunter was able to capture the win with a birdie 3 on the 18th hole. Congratulations to Hunter on the win and the ace!
Our largest field of the day was in Division 2, seventeen players battled and it came down to the back nine to decide a winner. Marcus Wirth, whose home course is Franklin Bridge, posted two-over 73 to win by two strokes over a group of four players, Mike Driscoll, Mark McFarland, Jordan Jones and Eric Soloway, who all tied at four-over 75. Driscoll takes home the second place gift card in a scorecard playoff and Jones takes home the third place gift card.
In Division 3, Cage Ellis turned in two consistent nines to post three-over 74 to take home first place over second-place winner, John Mangels, who shot five-over 75. James Newkirk finishes one stroke behind Mangels to take third place.
In Division 4, it could not have been scripted a better finish! Jason Gregory’s older brother, Memphis Chapter member, Andy Gregory, posts his best-ever round of 77 on any amateur tour to take home the victory by two strokes over Ron Allen and John White. White won the scorecard playoff over Allen to take home the second-place gift card. Allen settles for the third-place gift card. By the way, did I mention that it was also Andy’s birthday? You just can’t make this stuff up!
In Division 5, David McDow continued his winning ways by posting a four-stroke victory over Birmingham chapter's Don Hamblett. McDow also won the rain-shortened President’s Reserve event the previous weekend.
