The Las Vegas Chapter held the PWG Invitational Championship (Local Final) at beautiful Boulder Creek Golf Club this past weekend. Despite of tuff conditions both days (windy), the temperature and course conditions were perfect. This was our final tournament for the 2022 season to decide the player of the year race and even more exciting, we had 5 first time winners on the Amateur Players Tour.
Division 1 Champion – Jonathan MInkof [140]
Playing on very little sleep after hosting Pitbull for 2 nights at the night club he promotes, Minkoff came out firing immediately with an opening birdie on the first hole and never looked back. Minkof lead the entire tournament finishing at 140 over the two days – very impressive performance in the windy conditions. Four players finished tied for second at 166 – Tony Fortier, Edward Newcomb, Richard Harter, and John Benyo.
Congratulations Jonathan on this impressive win, your first on the Amateur Players Tour.
Division 2 Champion – Trevor Coss [154]
Starting off day 1 with a personal best tournament performance of 72, Trevor played very steady golf in windy conditions on day 2 to win his first ever Amateur Players Tour Championship, at the biggest event of the year. With his consistent play, we will see Coss in the winners circle several more times when the 2023 season kicks off.
Shawn Greenough took second place with 166.
Congratulations Trevor!!
Division 3 Champion – Mark Walker [164]
Playing very consistent over the two days in the windy conditions, this veteran tour player delivered with a 164 after the two days to secure the championship over second place finisher Jin Ho Choi 167.
This is Walker’s first win on the Amateur Players Tour and on a golf course he loves to play.
Congratulations Mark on the impressive victory and taking the Championship belt!
Division 4 Champion – Irvin Weintraub [175]
Playing out of the Phoenix Chapter, Irvin came to Boulder Creek looking for a good performance and he delivered with a victory, but it was hard fought as he and 2nd place finisher Jeffrey Greenough [175] had to go to an extra hole to decide the championship.
Congratulations Irvin on the win and we look forward to seeing you back in Las Vegas in 2023.
Division 5 Champion – Albert Nakada [191]
Coming in from California and challenging one of his good friends and APT veteran Michal Cosselman, Albert held on for the one-shot victory over another APT veteran Matt Coleman [192], with Cosselman [193] taking third.
With the victory Nakada was already trash talking [all in fun spirit] to his good friend about the championship belt.
Congratulations Albert on this impressive performance and welcome to the Amateur Players Tour.
Senior Net/Double Dip Champion – Trevor Coss [132]
This is a recurring story for the Senior Net division as several times this year as a division winner also wins the Senior Net. Coss had an impressive division win, but the Senior Net was even bigger with a 7 shot victory over second place finisher Jeffrey Greenough [139].
Congratulations Trevor for the double dip victory and collect two championship belts!!
