Sixty-five players visited The Legacy in Springfield, Tennessee for a day of competition across five divisions. Players were playing for the crystal trophy for the winner in each division along with VISA gift cards for those “in-the-money.”
In Division One, Kentucky Chapter member, Andrew Miller, got out to a three-stroke lead over 2nd place finisher, Andrew Neely, posting 2-under on his first nine holes which included an eagle and two birdies. Neely closed the gap to one stroke on the back nine, but was not able to finish off the comeback.
In Division Two, Wesley Locke roared out of the gate, posting 1-under 35 and looked unbeatable. The back nine was a different story as string of bogeys to start forced him to buckle down and make pars on the closing 3 holes to get into the clubhouse with a 79. Tom Foster’s nines were the opposite with an outward nine of 41 and a solid 2-over 38 inward nine to finish in a tie with Locke. The playoff started and ended on the par 4 10th as Locke stuffed his approach shot to 3 feet and proceeded to make birdie to win. Springfield’s own, Cage Ellis take home 3rd place honors with an 8-over round of 80.
In Division Three, no playoff holes were needed by Jonathan Little this week as he kept his hot streak alive; making it back-to-back wins with a 7-over 79 to win by two strokes over Lowe Prescott and Matt Love, who both posted 9-over 81.
In Division Four, Will Houston played solid on his front-nine with 6 pars to make the turn at 42 and a comfortable lead. Houston was challenged on the back nine, but was able to hold on, post 15-over 87 for the 3-stroke victory over Chris Tomlinson, who finished his round with 90.
In Division Five, Andy Nichols route to victory was an adventurous one. As he would admit, it was feast or famine with his round including 4 birdies along with 6 “others” to post a 16-over round of 88. As the saying goes, it’s not how, but how many. Andy scored an 8-stroke victory over his nearest competitor, Bowen Barrett, who posted 98. Andy Morris and Chris Kenney both finished with 98 in a tie for 3rd place.
In the Senior Net competition, Matt Love and Lowe Prescott dueled as they did in division three. Both finished tied at net rounds of 2-over 74. Love won the trophy with a scorecard playoff based on his last six holes.
