Fair Oaks Golf Club in Oakland, TN was the home to the Memphis/Mid-South APT Tour Finals on September 17-18, 2022. Forty-six players teed it up to compete for the Tour Finals championship as well as the year long Player of the Year titles.
David Apperson came out firing early and left no doubt as to who would win Division 1 for the weekend. After firing a bogey-free 65 (-7) on Saturday, Apperson responded Sunday with an impressive 69 (-3) for a two day total of 134 (-10). In what became the lowest two-day score in Memphis/Mid-South APT history, Apperson’s lead was never in doubt, even with Mel Davis securing a two-day total of 143 (-1) for the second place finish.
Ed McDugle became our 2022 Memphis/Mid-South Division 1 Player of the Year as he capped off a stellar season that saw 5 wins, 6 second place finishes, and 20 Top 5 finishes. With the win on the weekend, Apperson finished the season second in the Division 1 Player of the Year race.
Division 2 saw our first real battle of the weekend. Jack Ross used two steady rounds of 72 (E) and 75 (+3) for a 147 total to claim the one shot win over Russ Brasel and Keith Nuckolls. Brasel had rounds of 75 (+3) and 73 (+1) while Nuckolls had rounds of 72 (E) and 76 (+4). Tim Miller was also in the hunt with rounds of 73 (+1) and 76 (+4) to finish two shots off the lead.
Tim Miller became our 2022 Memphis/Mid-South Division 2 Player of the Year as he capped off a season that saw 2 wins, 7 second place finishes, and 16 Top 5 finishes. Paul Luker finished second in the Player of the Year race.
In Division 3, Neil Adams used a two day total of 160 with back to back rounds of +8 (80s) to hold off a late surge from Jeff McMillian. McMillian fired a final round +3 (75) to climb within two strokes of the lead but Adams was able to pull it out.
John Gathings became our 2022 Memphis/Mid-South Division 3 Player of the Year with his 5 wins, 1 second place, and 8 Top 5 finishes. Jon Sylvester finished second in the Player of the Year race.
Kevin Brown and Sean Jacobs battled each other all weekend for the Division 4 win. Brown held off a surge from Jacobs with rounds of 80 (+8) and 83 (+11) for a 163 to edge Jacobs’ back-to-back 82s (+10s) for a two day total of 164. Vince Vaghela and Bart Watkins had matching two day 168s to finished tied for 3rd.
With the win in the Tour Finals and on the back of his 2 wins, 4 second place finishes and 13 Top 5s, Kevin Brown was able to pass Jason Bucher for the Division 4 Player of the Year title. Bucher finished second in the POY race after a great season around the APT.
In Division 5, Chris Jones used rounds of 86 (+14) and 83 (+11) for a 169 to hold off Nashville’s Rachel Guthrie’s 170 (87-83). Jones and Guthrie matched each other shot for shot on Sunday with matching 83s to battle down to the wire.
The Memphis/Mid-South Division 5 Player of the Year went to Trey Horrell. Horrell finished the 2022 season with 2 wins, 3 second place finishes, and 10 Top 5 finishes. Amaan Allahi finished second in the Player of the Year race.
