Thanks to all the players that made it out to Cobblestone and made it another fantastic event for APT! Cobblestone was most accommodating with their top-notch staff, and the course was in great shape! The greens had healed up perfectly from being aerated and were quick, the rough was thick and the fairways were plush! Congrats to our winners!
Division 1
18 holes was not enough to determine a winner in D1! We had to go to Sudden Death playoff on Hole 1 to find out if it’s going to be Derek Foulke or Chris Jones to take home the trophy. If you haven’t seen it on APT Atlanta’s Facebook page, you could follow along the playoff to see who the winner was! Derek played his game, found the fairway, hit a 3-wood layup, then stuck his 3rd shot to 6ft below the hole! Chris, being a longer hitter, hit driver and 3-wood going for the green in 2 and ended up in the greenside bunker. Chris was unable to get up and down for a birdie but made a great par from off the green. And Derek was able to make his putt for birdie to get his 2nd win in a row for APT Atlanta! Congrats to Matt Crowder (Smoky Mtn) for finishing in 3rd place just 2 shots out of the lead.
Division 2
It was a tight finish for all of our D2 players and came down to the final 4 holes to determine a winner! Congrats to Sam Wise (Birmingham) for claiming his victory over Tommy Sedman (Smoky Mtn) by 1 shot! It was a waiting game for Tommy as he posted his score and watched the APT App in Live Scoring to see if he was going to win or be tied for the victory. Congrats to Joseph Stoddard (Smoky Mtn) as well for finishing tied 2nd but lost in a scorecard playoff and ended up in 3rd place.
Division 3
It was a 2-man race in D3 and had another playoff to see who would win! 18 holes was not enough to determine a winner and so Craig Brown (Upstate SC) and Jesus Guevara (Birmingham) had to go to Sudden Death on the 1st hole. This playoff was posted on APT Atlanta’s Facebook page as well! So if you didn’t see the outcome, both players hit the fairway, Jesus had to play a recovery shot after hitting his 2nd shot left into the woods. Craig had to punch out to the fairway on his 2nd shot and hit an unreal 3 hybrid to 3ft on the green! Jesus was unable to get up and down from left of the green for par and ended up conceding the hole. Congrats Craig on your victory! Congrats to APT Guest John Ewing for placing 3rd in his 1st ever APT Tournament!
Division 4
Congrats to our D4 winner Josh Adams (Atlanta)! Josh has been playing Cobblestone for a long time and relied on his course knowledge to squeak out a win over APT Atlanta Guest Jonathan Culpepper by 2 shots! Josh joined APT early in the year but wasn’t able to play in as many tournaments as he wanted to. Judging on his finish, I think Josh will be back! And congrats to Phillip Grant (Atlanta), who won Towne Lake Hills a couple weeks ago and now has a 3rd place finish!
Division 5
Congrats to Doug Gibbs (Atlanta) for winning his 1st APT tournament! Doug has been playing many tournaments but has been unable to come out with a victory till now! And congrats to David Phillips (Smoky Mtn) for coming in 2nd place. Well played guys!
We cannot thank our players enough for the support for APT Atlanta’s first ever season! Cobblestone marks the end of the single day tournaments. Our next tournament will be The Border Battle sponsored by UPS at Currahee and Cateechee on September 25th and 26th. This will be our last local tournament and plan on having a huge field of players! The Border Battle will bring players from SC and GA (Upstate SC, Augusta, and Atlanta Tours) to determine our Local Player of the Year!
